Yuletides Past

This made me laugh. Apparently Amazon has suggested that I "stay informed" by reading Mad Magazine. Perhaps my grasp of Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions is lacking. It also made me a bit nostalgic since my brother Chad and I used to find the old MAD's hilarious. We had stacks and stacks of them until he sold them to Creepy Rick at the comic book/Video store.

Anyway, I've decided as a treat for you all, to go back through all my years on LJ and post some of the best (in MY estimation, of course) Xmassy things I said.

2002
"One of my co-workers bought me a giant thing (like The Thing) of candy in two tins. One tin has on it the Eiffel Tower (like from Superman II) and the other one has Leaning Tower of Piza (like from Nat'l Lampoons European Vacation). They are full of chocolate (like in Chocolat). If you think about it, every gift is like The Movies."

2003
"We're having a party for New Years Eve!*

It's gonna be good!!

*if you are a Goddamn Whore, you can't come.

2004
"There's nothing like spending Christmas Eve at the shelter to make you feel better about your own life. That's for dang sure!

I thought it would be quiet, instead, I had to deal with 2 ambulances, the cops, and a minister calling me "cold hearted and vile" because I told him we couldn't accept someone who had been banned from the shelter the previous week for stabbing another client. One lady was having night terrors and another guy kept waking up yelling at someone in his head. Plus, it was stupid cold."

2005
"I've also been reading a lot of posts from people who "hate Christmas". To them I say, if you hate it so much, why are you paying so much attention to it? Seriously, stores are only slightly more garish and crowded. People are arguing about petty crap and stressing out only a tad more than they usually do. Yeah, that music they play sucks, but (ipods are plentiful and) you don't really have to listen to it."

Last year's is probably the silliest thing I said. I don't mind Christmas, because I rarely shop in department stores, I avoid the mall for the entire month of December, and I plan everything far enough in advance that I'm not crazy busy at the end. Anyone could do this, but they don't. Just like anyone could eschew the commercial in favor of handmade gifts and meaningful family time, but they don't. I like making cookies and giving tokens of my esteem. So far though, alls I've made is granola. Mmmmm...

Oh, hey! I posted a link in my LJ last night that you might enjoy.

http://www.mediocrefilms.com/

The first film is a zombie short. It made me think of you. Funny, we've never met, but I thought immediately of you. :)

I do find that when people think zombies, they think Wednes. And rightly so. ;-]

That's a good one, I hadn't seen it before. Don't be uncool to the undead is a great tagline.

::sporfle::

I got a real kick out of your Xmess-past excerpts. Hee!

But if I were having a Solstice Party, I'd want the goddamn whores to come. Fer sure.

Just sayin'. ;D

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-12-19 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks.

I have nothing against whores in a general way. I was being passive agressive vs a particular whore I knew at the time.

You celebrated Solstice yesterday or you're under the impression that it actually *was* yesterday? (Cuz t'ain't til the 22nd.) :)

Either way, happy happy one!
(I'm glad it's the 22nd instead of the 21st this year...my customer might actually have her chalice by then. Whoot!)

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-12-19 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
No, I didn't celebrate yesterday that I remember. ;-]
But the meme choices were somewhat limited. Plus, it was a meme from last year. Although we did celebrate H's birthday today even though it's not until the 20th.

[identity profile] lirrin.livejournal.com 2006-12-19 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
Nevermind, I was on crack. :) No, actually, on sugar. :)

And Happy Birthday H! Whoot!

(We need to start talkin' tiara here soon...didja get my email about being the $20 recipient from the Jewelry Party? :)

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-12-19 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG no...I didn't. There's something amiss with my Emails-- and I'm not getting anything Lj related either.

That's awesome news because it occurred to me later that I'm going to need earrings and perhaps a necklace of some sort so I'll match. I'll have H measure my head this week.
