It's the moooost wonderful tiiiiime of the year!

That's right bitches, time once again to prepare thyself for NaNoWriMo. I wasn't sure I was even going to do NaNo this year for several reasons. I'm hand crafting holiday gifts, which will take a bite outta my time. Also, I'm most excited to work on a project I started last summer and never finished. It had a cat featured prominently in it, and then Clarence got sick and I couldn't work on it anymore. Of course, it's against the rules to NaNo a novel you've already started on. But this year, there is a new rule that will allow me to do just that. NaNo is getting to be a regular Catholic Church when it comes to changing rules to gain participants. Wheeeee!

Last year my NaNo buddies were as follows:
pyrafire
rivetkitten
Aicerno
Liadra
lickingtoad
Absinthofheart
selchie

Anyone want to bail on me this year? Anybody want to be buddies?
Myself, I gain a lot of momentum from having writing buddies for NaNo. And while I suck at reading anyone else's work and giving feedback, I'm great at encouragement. Funnily, I almost never willingly read other people's stuff for the purpose of critique. Not only does it take time away from my own writing, but there are so many hazzards involved. If the writing is good, I'm bummed I'm not that good or that I didn't think of that cool idea. If it's bad, then I have to figure out how to not crush the person while still being honest. Besides, plenty of people ask for "honest feedback" when they actually want encouragement. I tend to foget this, and interpret a request for honesty as a desire for honesty. Silly me; I'll never learn!! And of course, I'm just too selfish to give that much time to someone else's work. I only read work from people who I know, adore, and admire...or those writing with such a compelling premise that I simply can't resist it. Say, the guy who wrote about Trepanation. It would have been futile to even pretend I didn't want to read it. Luckily, it was also good.

Anyway, I hope to start (re)planning this novel on my breaks from loom knitting. Speaking of which, I'm going to get some yarn today. Sadly, it looks like I'll need to buy a new loom (and not a cheap plastic one like I have now) in order to make a baby blanket for K. I kinda wish I could crochet for real, then I could just stich a bunch of scarves together. :-]

I'm wondering if crochet will make more sense to me as I get better with the looms. Maybe if the stitches are visible and uniform I'll have an easier time adding stitches. There are a bunch of cute knitted stuffed animals you can make with the loom, but they all need ears!
