Um...we weren't actually invited, Dude.

You know how I complain about when everyone on my list embeds YouTube stuff on their page? Well, you're gonna have to figure out a way to reconcile that, because last night's Emmy intto is too funny not to post:

So what's bugging me now?

--I still do not have a male voice actor to help out with the podcast of my first novel. Fie!

--Colbert losing an Emmy to Barry Manilow. And I sort of dig Barry Manilow.

--People who post in the NaNoWriMo community about how they can't wait for November because they just love to write, and when NaNo starts (and ONLY when NaNo starts, apparently) can they feel free to do so.

--People who think I give a rats ass about their lame-ass, ripped-off fantasy plots...or any plots for that matter. Since when do writers go around telling everybody with internet access exactly what they're writing about???

--I have no idea what the hell bit me, but it's swollen and itchy and bright red.

--The Doctor who misdiagnosed/mismedicated me in 1998 is going to prison. Of course, he totally fucked up my life because he didn't bother listening to me but apparently that is not a crime. Do note that he said I only thought I had bi-polar because I smoked pot "all the time." Note this because he was also a pot dealer.

What's NOT bugging me?

--I applied to work at Borders today. The job is a great one, I daresay it's the perfect job for me: writing copy for Borders ads. Yeah...I know! So I hope I at least get invited to interview.

--Daily Show winning another Emmy.

--Tart and tasty Knox Blox are hardening in my fridge. Mmmmmm.

--ReReading Harriet Lerner's The Dance of Fear is brightening my whole day.

--Even though I gave myself a whole extra month to finish Hazel's novel, I'm still not going to be done.

--The subtle but effective changed in my new LJ layout. I seem to get bored with my layouts with alarming frequency. But changing them up is remarkably easy, so that's nice.

--This Ho1KC icon was cracking me up. Maybe it will crack you up too.

What kind of male voice are you looking for?

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-28 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
There are several, I need someone with enough range to do 4-5 male voices. I plan to do most if not all of the females. There are two mildly gruff blue collar guys, one of whom gets very angry. There is a doctor (older than 40), a lawyer (30ish), and two cops (one young, one old--think Brisco).

[identity profile] kindofblue328.livejournal.com 2006-08-28 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Can I audition? 'Cause I would love to do it! I have a pretty good voice range, as well.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-28 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I wasn't really planning on auditioning people. I can send you the manuscript. If you want to read it and let me know if you have ideas for the male characters and are interested in moving forward, we can talk more.

There is some questionable/uncomfortable subject matter.
Fair warning.

I don't think I have your Email addy though.

[identity profile] gifgal.livejournal.com 2006-08-28 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
hah, thanks for sharing that utube! i made a decision to not record the emmys this year, and damit if i dont regret it now after reading about it!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-28 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
That's funny. I recorded The Oscars last year and almost nothing cool happened.

[identity profile] parilous.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, how did you get it to embed in your LJ? I tried pasting the "embed" HTML and it just printed the text (rather than converting it) in my final post. In the end, I had to go back and edit it with the URL link. So, what's the secret?

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
I just cut and pasted the "embed" option and it worked for me. Maybe it's dependent on your layout or something.

Okay, what are Knox Blox?

It is sometimes referred to as "finger jello"

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad you aksed:

Here is a basic recipe which you can alter a zillion different ways:

Bloom 4 envelopes of KNOX unflavored gelatin in i cup cold water. Heat 2 cups water or juice until it just reaches a boil and dissolve 2 boxes flavored jello (or more knox, if you just want to flavor with juice). Add bloomed knox and 1 cup of fizzy soda (you can use any cold liquid you like, but I like fizzy soda) and stir until smooth.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Whoops,

I accdientally hit return too early.

Anyway, then you put them in a 11x 13 or so pan and chill them. Then I cut them into squares and keep them in a ziplock bag in the fridge for whenever I crave something sweet, cold or fruity. I use sugar free jello so it has very few calories and you can eat them like finger food. Mmmmmm.

Mmmmm, indeed. I'll have to give that a try. It sounds yummy and fun. : )

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It is. Some people use a cookie cutter to make cool shapes. I find that the squares taste just as good. ;-]

You know, I almost never talk about happy memories of my childhood. But Knox Blox is definitely one.

[personal profile] groovesinorbit 2006-08-29 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see why. Jello (or Knox) as finger food would make my list.

I think my favorite food memory would be the pinwheels my mom made from leftover dough for pie crusts. With butter, cinnamon and brown sugar? Mmm, tasty.

Nice.

lol

Loved the video, thx :)

Re: lol

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
No prob. I know most people don't bother to watch all of The Emmy's. And why should you, when the best part is over in five minutes? ;-]

Re: lol

[identity profile] katharinakatt.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
Well plus the emmys live here would be at perhaps 2am. ;P

[identity profile] kissdbyagnome.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
some people were grumbling that that intro was in poor taste because of the plane crash in ky ::rolls eyes::

oooh, i can so see you working at borders!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
H was just telling me that NBC apologized. That's just so silly, NBC planned and shot it weeks (maybe months) before the crash. It's not as if they did it specifially or even maliciously to be disrespectful of plan crash victims or their families. I swear it's like people sit at home taking TV notes just waiting to find something to be offended by. I'm offended by American Idol; as of today, FOX has not apologized.

TBS shows Jaws and/or Jaws 3 & 4 every damn weekend whether there's a real life shark attack or not. Nobody accuses them of insenstivity!

[identity profile] kissdbyagnome.livejournal.com 2006-08-30 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and Paris Hilton offends me to no end. Why isn't someone apologizing for her to me!?

[identity profile] swayworn.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
That youtube clip was hilarious. Thanks! Do you really not like it when other people embed them?

I'd like to offer to help out with the novel podcastage, but I don't know if I have the time. Not that you would necessarily want to use me, but I find the project tempting.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
The first novel podcast is gonna be about 70% me and 30% other voices. The next one, presuming I can finish it in a timely way, will have a much more diverse cast, and in fact, should have a male narrator.

Maybe you will want to do the intro/outtro and credits and such. Then you wouldn't need to be present at a group reading.

[identity profile] swayworn.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be a blast! Do you want to send me the manuscript and I can email you back a sample of me reading from it?

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I have not made the actual script out of the novel yet. I'm a huge procrastinator. But I can certainly Email you a .pdf of the novel.

Is it swayworn@livejournal.com ?

[identity profile] swayworn.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my no. Paid account? Not me. It's jjhatjonathanharforddotcom.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay then. I just sent it.

Oh, and to answer your earlier question, I dont' really care that much when people post YouTube things. It's just that when LJ embeding first started, roughly 70% of my list was people posting only that.

[identity profile] madush69.livejournal.com 2006-08-30 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
When do you begin recording? Will it be during the evening?
Will it be before or after my honeymoon? Answer these questions, and you shall have that elusive voice actor.
I'm taking the book with me for an uninterupted read on the plane, and if I can't concentrate on a flight, then you have permission to stab me and leave me on the kitchen floor.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-30 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
When you read it, you'll realize that I need no one's permission to stab anyone. ;-]

I guess I assumed you weren't interested in the project. When I asked you about it initially you said you didn't know how to do podcasts...and the next thing I knew you'd done several podcasts but still hadn't picked up the novel I gave you over a year earlier. I know you have a lot on your plate right now and would not neccesarily tell me if you'd changed your mind (I suppose due to fear of incurring my wrath--it's quite wrathful).

But to answer your question, I'm planning to work with the actors as much as possible. At this point, I still need to convert the novel to a script and determine where the best place to record is. I don't want to inconvenince Ryan any more than I already do. ;=]
