I'm living in a cuckoo clock!

Hey all, I'm back--as is my internet connection. Turns out all I had to do was yell at the cable man, power cycle everything, and then wait for [livejournal.com profile] uterdic to come help me. I swear, sometimes I don't know what I would do without that guy (except get scratched a lot trying to pick up Pentelope).

Even though I am a hardcore horrorfan, I must tell you that the single most frightening book I've ever read was The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. I didn't put a link there, because if you don't know of this book, you shoudl take the time to seek it out. Why do I bring this up? Because [livejournal.com profile] pijeanf has hipped me to the fact that Bush is on his way there, and no one seems to think there's anything wrong with that. Is there some kind of child shortage I am not aware of? Some jackass on CNN or FOX or some shit was also just saying that we "americans" by which he meant "white people" need to start breeding more because the *gasp* mexicans/hispanics are breeding faster than we are.
There are so many things wrong with that I don't even know where to begin. I really don't. But in case you missed it, just know that women are for breeding and looking pretty AND THAT'S ALL!! Come to think of it, that's also why gay people aren't supposed to get married--they don't make babies and we need way more. Ophanages are not full to overflowing, the welfare system is not overworked, underfunded or understaffed, and classroom sizes are far too small. Right? No? Well then, I fail to see the point of all this malarchy except to subjugate women and insult gays and minorities.

On a different but still irritating note, since when is one season of LOST $59.99?!? Even though I got season one as a gift (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] sudrin) I do not think it cost upwards of $50. Who do they think they are? HBO? and with this whole "we're not going to rerun any episodes" nonsense, we won't have much choice but to buy them, or watch them online with all those damn commercials. They are just begging people to pirate their shit, IMHO.

The Showcase Cinema (national amusements, that is) near me now has an IMAX screen. You'd think that'd be good news, but all they're playing on it right now is Poseidon, and some 40 minute mediocre undersea thing in 3D. The next 2D movie I see will likely be DaVinci Code. I like Audrey Tautou and also enjoy doing whatever the Catholic church doesn't want me to do. The bad news? Early word is that it sucks anyway. That's a shame, but how often do we really get a Tom Hanks (or Otm Shank for you Simps fans) movie that sucks ass? I can think of a few, but the proportion is low.

I forgot to mention, someone on my flist is having gastric bypass surgery. I am bummed to think anyone has such a problem with their weight that they actually need surgery to "fix" it. If you hate yourself and your appearance, surgery will not help this. And not for nothing, but the people I know who got those procedures turned into giant sluts (or gianter, in one case) as soon as they took the wieght off, totally confirming my suspicions that wieghing less does not make us happier with ourselves. And before anyone gets on my case for calling someone a slut, I don't mean people who enjoy sex or swing or whatever. I mean people who fuck to get people to like them, and then wonder "why he hasn't called."
Harsh? Perhaps, but not as harsh as have an operation because you think it will make you happy (or that people will like you more) if you wiegh less.

You US guys are lucky - the catholics are picketing cinemas here over Da Vinci Code.

And Lost here is split into two boxsets which cost £26 each. Effectively, almost $100 per season!!!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-17 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Most people are too lazy to pickett over here (unless they are carrying an enormous full color photo of an aborted foetus). I can't remember a movie picketing since Last Temptation of Christ--which actually had the same core problem as DVC. Apparently the idea that Jesus used the whole "my dad is the almighty god" thing to get laid is really, really upsetting.

But not as upsetting as $100 a season for LOST.

[identity profile] near-dark.livejournal.com 2006-05-17 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't have much hope for The Da Vinci Code not sucking.

I liked the book and will probably see the movie this weekend but Tom Hanks in the main role just seems totally wrong to me.

[identity profile] rivetkitten.livejournal.com 2006-05-17 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if you don't mind watching it on your computer, the iTunes complete 1st season is $35, and I can't imagine the 2nd season would be much more than that. It's really not all that bad, considering that the individual eps are $2 each, and there's 25 to the season. If you tack on the "bonus" features (not that I know what they are/if they're worth it), that plus the cost of the discs themselves might be worth the extra $10.

"Gianter" ROTFL So True, So Very True!!!!

[identity profile] hollie-horror.livejournal.com 2006-05-17 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
If I were any more anti-gastric bipass I would be annoying.

It's such a BAD idea and if you REALLY want to lose weight THAT bad that you're willing to have some doctor fuck you up, exercise and eat better.

I get annoyed with my weight sometimes but I would never turn to something like that, it's my fault I'm like this cause I like cheese and I'm lazy. I've done a few things like quit drinking pop, but now I need to get into the whole, exercising thing.

My exboyfriend's mom had the surgery done and she almost died. She said she would give anything to be 350lbs again.

p.s.

[identity profile] hollie-horror.livejournal.com 2006-05-17 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
And to be honest how many people are actually doing it for health reasons instead of vanity?

There are more people than not who will not change their eating habits, instead of two cheeseburgs they'll have half of one with a half order of fries.

What, so they can be skinny when their heart blows out like a tire?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_scarlet_ibis_/ 2006-05-17 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm removing you from my list now and I'll hope you will do the same for me. That last paragraph was hateful and ignorant. A LOT of people have weight loss surgery because they have medical problems that have caused them to gain weight even on starvation diets. A LOT of people have weight loss surgery to correct insulin related problems that have made them infertile. A LOT of people who have had weight loss surgery are in committed and loving relationships and would never consider becoming a slut all of a sudden.

And to you insensitive and just plain WRONG noter up there who says to just eat right and exercise: STFU, YOU IDIOT. It doesn't work that way for some people. How lucky for you that you don't have any insight or understanding of such issues.

[identity profile] everythingtold.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Have MORE children? *looks around* Anyone wanna get busy?

[identity profile] madush69.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
:-)

[identity profile] hollie-horror.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
So, I take it you tried everything from joining a gym and working out everyday to going on diets?

p.s.

[identity profile] hollie-horror.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, so eating right and exercising isn't good for people? hahahha. Whatever.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
I'll likely still see it also, but yeah, it's not looking good.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, I don't have a DVD burner and can't store all the eps on my little HD. I guess I'm more annoyed that it's really expensive and I'll likely own it anyway.

Plus, it'll probably go on sale at Best Buy for less if I'm patient.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
I also must wonder why, if you need to keep to a special diet after the surgery, why you can't just keep to one before.

Like you, I would like to be healthier and excersize more, but I'm lazy and undisciplined. But I'd join a gym and actually go to it before I'd have a fucking operation. *shudder*

Re: p.s.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
So true.

People have been saying for years that excess wieght will make you die, but really it's sedentary lifestyles and poor nutrition--which of course affect people of all sizes.

I presume you've already clicked on www.bigfatfacts.com

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, that is too bad. It seems that not only are you aware of the extensive writing I have done on this issue (I do have a "fat" tag) but you have also blatantly misread what was written.

Nowhere did I say that no one who had sugery was in a committed relationship, I referred to people that I know. And I have never heard of anyone having gastric bypass to correct an insulin problem, neither has the MD I asked about this.

Nice of you to stop by, totally misread me, call me childish names and then imply that I know nothing of fat people. You simply could not be more wrong.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
LOL

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
That actually is beside the point. Individuals should be allowed to make their own choices about such things, I'm just really strongly opposed to it. In all the instances I have seen, the persons health deteriorated drastically afterwards--and yes, it has been primarily women who didn't like themselves heavy and got surgery rather than altering their behavior.

My point (for those who missed it by miles) was that you can be fat and sexy, you can be fat and healthy, you can be fat and happy. And anyone who tells you that surgery is the only path to these things has an obvious bias.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_scarlet_ibis_/ 2006-05-18 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Then that MD is wrong.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Even if that's true, you've blatantly misread me. Not surprising, considering you must have also missed the bit on my info page requesting that people be polite and use manners when they want to argue a point.

The doc I asked said was that increased insulin is a byproduct of the surgery but is extreme, dangerous, and not reccomended unless the situation is immediately life threatening. Did you really think I was chastizing people for trying to save their own lives?
It really does sound like you were looking for a reason to take offense. I understand that health and weight are heated and complicated issues for everyone, and women in particular. But you appear to have leapt to a false conclusion and reacted strongly to something that was neither stated nor implied.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_scarlet_ibis_/ 2006-05-18 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Go back and read what you wrote. It's offensive. If not to you, then just know it was to me.

And you mean decreased insulin. I hope.

Anyway, it really doesn't matter.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I heard you say you were offended, but not why. Your reasons seem to revolve around assumptions that you made, rather than what was actually said. If you want to have an intelligent discussion about this, I'm all for it.
But if this was just some showy display of how offended you were and how awful I am for having contrary opinions, then this is just a waste of my time.

At any rate, I have removed you from my flist per your request.

[identity profile] madush69.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
I think, from what I remember it's because the stomach has stretched to the point that egular dieting leaves the subject constantly hungr so they're predestined to fail. Granted that could have just been the line of bull they gave the ex, but I know if I switched to the diet she was on without surgery, I'd have starved to death.

[identity profile] madush69.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
CAmryn Manheim is very sexy when she smiles. When she's serious, she's strong and powerful, but yeah, I'll vouch that fat can be sexy. (I know, it's a surprise coming from the guy who ogled girls in the mall for years, but look at the sexy heavy babe I'm in love with, RRRowwww!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Of course you would not have. While starvation diets do slow down one's metabolism and ultimately impede weight loss, cutting back on over eating (assuming the person does that, I certainly wouldn't want to imply that all fat people overeat) that the stomach will shrink and you'll feel fuller on less.

For me, I tend to eat when I bored or sad or high and I eat a fair amount of junk food. But if I really wanted to get serious about weight loss, I would be hungry a lot since healthy food costs a lot more than junk.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
I think anyone who has met me in person already knows that fat gals can be sexy.

;-}

[identity profile] eroslane.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
I've heard rumors that the Imax print of SUPERMAN RETURNS will include a 15 minute Imax 3D portion of the film --- which, if that looks half as good as the recent DEEP SEA 3D Imax thing, it will sooooooooooooooooooo f-ing rock!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Right On! I hadn't heard that, but it'll be sweet.

I didn't see the sea thing, as I'm not paying $9 for anything under an hour.

[identity profile] gifgal.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
haha awesomest comment in this thread evar!!!

and i haven't had the honor of meeting you yet hehe :)

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure it would be safe for us to meet. Might cause some kind of hot girl sex implosion or some such. And who knows how much we'll have to smoke to come down from something like that?

;-}

PS, I'm working on Hazel's new chapter as we speak. She's on a date with a *gasp* guy who's being nice to her.

[identity profile] fyreangel.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 10:47 am (UTC)(link)
Ok, so I didn't read your whole post.. cuz it's a lot of words.. and I'm retarded right now (For lack of a more descriptive word) ...but frightening books.. I've probably mentioned this.. but I was disturbed by two books.
First.. was The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks .. REAL strange. Something about hearing about a young child being tied to a balloon (or something.. it's been a while) .. and being carried off over the ocean and never seen again.. Ewwy.
Second was Glamorama by Bret Easton Ellis (American Psycho guy) .. just.. gory!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
I never read Glamorama, though I meant to. I have not heard of the other, but that sounds totally disturbing.

[identity profile] madush69.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It sure does. It's amazing how 75 cents worth of little debbies can take the edge off quicker than $4.00 worth of something nutritious. If we can ever have a few days when it's not raining I'm gonna get back to bike riding. I need to work these old muscles and joints. (heh heh, I said joints!)

[identity profile] madush69.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
AND, Wednes has the sexiest voice of all my friends. Honest to (diety of your choice).

[identity profile] nate101000.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I was the total opposite. The moment I found out Tom Hanks was in, I was totally psyched.

[identity profile] nate101000.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that would depend on how you define 'overeat'.

Loosing weight properly should be common sense. You gradually adjust the amount of high fat and calorie food in your diet down while adjusting the lean food up, and increasing exercise.

Of course that's easier said than done.

[identity profile] nate101000.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I am going to that party.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-19 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
I presume you only mean your female friends. Because H's voice is very, VERY sexy.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-19 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
You can be the "pizza delivery guy"

Is there another way we can pay for that pizza?

[identity profile] madush69.livejournal.com 2006-05-19 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, him and Blue have really excellent male voices. If it were a career people could mmake a decent living at locally, I'd urge H, you, and Blue to be on the radio...of course we've tried here for you before, and right now they've been in a shrinkage mode, with the automation and what have you, but anyway, yeah, H has a sweet voice!

[identity profile] nate101000.livejournal.com 2006-05-19 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Ummm...

Debit Card?

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-19 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
I went to college with a guy podcasts his own novels that he does all the voices for. He's no Jim Dale, but I think he's pretty damn good. Maybe you and I could talk about putting something like that together for my first novel (if you ever actually read it, I mean).

[identity profile] madush69.livejournal.com 2006-05-20 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Ouch...but well deserved.
