You can pay to do anything...

FYI, Hostel gave me a total goregasm. Kids, it is outstanding among movies of it's type. Precisely the correct amount of gore, handled in just the right way for maximum impact. Eli Roth is a master, and dammit, I'm even okay with him doing The Bad Seed for 2007.

If you like horror, or even hardcore action movies, see this one. It is extremely satisfying, sufficeintly creepy, downright terrifying in parts, and does not drag at any time. Good, strong stuff. And now, I'm thinking horror, and doing the happy DVD dance because we got a DVD player as a gift for one of our many admirers.

So kids, lend me your thoughts on some horror:

[Poll #720807]

In non-horror news, Stephen Colbert really needs to hire a food taster. He really ought to be more careful of publicly insulting people with no regard for the law. Bush the younger was SO not amused... I less then three Stephen, and don't want him to find a bear in his oatmeal like so many dissidents before him.

I believe Wrong Turn is a little beyond that eighteen month restriction.

Eli Roth ain't doing The Bad Seed!

Last time I read, he's doing the Hostel sequel and then directing Cell.

Also...greatest poll ever.

When it comes to creepy,

The honor has to go to Salvadore Dali's thirty minute short film 'Un Petite Chien Andalou'--the little Andalousian Dog. *Chuckling* It's strange, and the scene where Dali's friend cuts his wife's eye out with a scalpel is just...

'The Ring' wasn't bad--in fact I was downright terrified of it, even though I didn't know what the hell I was watching at the time. But fie--what do I know of horror? I like Dali, est verdad.

As for the Stephen Colbert comment--I wouldn't be overly surprised either... and yet at a conference famous for its roasts of presidents; his allowing a double was pretty smooth. Although having a personal food taster is a generally good idea all around.

Whoops! I meant the Russian one that almost no one has seen but many are discussing. I haven't seen it, myself.

But the other one is pretty scary. And that Jeremy Sisto is a hot little number.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
But...IMDB says it is. *stamps foot*

And Wow, I had no idea they were doing Cell so soon. I've gotta read [livejournal.com profile] sweinberg's journal more closely.

Gracias.

I enjoyed both version of Ringu/The Ring. But the American Ring sequel taunts you with scary scenes and an inexplicably amazing cast, then delivers pure plotless crap. It was very sad.

I have not seen the short film of whence you speak, but I'm intrigued. Where does one get their grubby mitts on a copy?

I saw a very disturbing and memorable short called Dog at the academy nominee showing in um...2002 or 3. If you ever get a chance to see it, it is utterly remarkable.

I never trust IMDB for news like that, a few months back they had John Carpenter doing the next Hallowee but it was gone with a day, I was heartbroken.

And yeah, I'm surprised they are actually letting Eli Roth do it, I was figuring Stephen would demand Romero to direct.

Halloween

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 10:28 am (UTC)(link)
That makes sense, considering. Turns out, I didn't like the last oh, 1/3 of Cell. Once they started levitating and shit, I just wasn't with that.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I kinda figured that was what you meant. ;-}

It does have him doing both films (bad seed and cell) in 2007.
I'm not gonna give up just yet, although I really love the original Bad Seed movie.

[identity profile] stranger-tales.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Well now. This is the first I've heard of that one. Which isn't all that surprising considering it's Russian. But it looks like something I need to track down.

And I loved Wrong Turn. You know. The other one. It's the best backwoods Horror flick they've made in years.

[identity profile] stranger-tales.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I could've done without that spoiler. Not that I'm upset because you've spoiled a plot point. It just sounds like something I'm going to hate. Much like the last third of Undead.

I have Un Petite Chien Andalou around here somewhere. A friend sent it to me a couple years ago on a compilation disc with a few other things. Like the fanflick trailer for Batman VS Predator. Or Batman VS Predator VS Alien. Whatever it was, I liked it more than I have the last few actual movies they've released.

Anyway, I can hook you up with a copy if need be.

[identity profile] fyreangel.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Is that the new Stephen King novel? Is it worth reading? I kinda gave up on his books after reading the girl who loved tom gordon.

[identity profile] sidhedevil.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I had a bitch of a time picking one single horror movie to rule them all. I kept thinking about the Freddies, In the Mouth of Madness, The Ring, the original Omen, The Exorcist, the old school House on Haunted Hill...it was like trying to decide which molecule of oxygen is my favorite.

I'm so glad I married a horror movie junkie. =P

[identity profile] fyreangel.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
NO WAIT! I change my last answer to The Changling. It still freaks me out to this day!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I was impressed by the other Wrong Turn as well. Really strong violence, and a solid reminder that when someone is trying to shoot you with a bow/arrow, always run away in a zig-zag fashion!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
That's actually a very apt comparison.

And yeah, IMHO, the first 2/3 of Cell is amazing, and then it just goes off, like that South Park ep with the crab people.

But yeah, sorry 'bout that.

Re: When it comes to creepy,

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
That would, of course, kick ass!

Let me see if I can snag a copy closer to me, but it's unlikely since all my local horror pals have moved away. ;-(

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a tough question. I loved the first 2/3 of the book, it's very scary and impressive. I felt it didn't answer what I really wanted resolved and was very disappointed by the ending. Still, there are some memorable scenes and good characters. So it's a toss up, I'm glad I read it, but I'm not really reccommending it like I was when I started.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Must be nice. H is more of a Sci Fi guy, but he does watch horror with me from time to time.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, that's a good one. There's plenty of good 70's and 80's stuff people have mostly forgotten. Like The Sentinel with Burgess Meredith and Chris Sarandon. Ohh scary!

[identity profile] batarde.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
They're remaking the Bad Seed?
I hope it's as funny as the original.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you trying to pick a fight?
;-}

I love that fuckin' movie.
It's an all-time fave of mine.

[identity profile] sidhedevil.livejournal.com 2006-05-03 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
I love sci-fi, don't get me wrong. And I love my horror movies, too -- but Rojir is a horror movie junkie. Especially zombie flicks. 1/3 to 1/2 of our movie collection is pure zombie, right down to Shaolin vs. the Evil Dead (our latest purchase).

Shared geekdoms rock. =P

[identity profile] batarde.livejournal.com 2006-05-03 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Not at all! There is nothing better than dated horror movies IMO!

[identity profile] sleazeanna.livejournal.com 2006-05-04 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
interesting that you enjoyed Hostel so much. I remember feeling very blah when I left the theatre. Like a bit disappointed. And I thought it was VERY slow at times.

Maybe it was the mood I was in or something...I'll have to re-watch it.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-04 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Well, watching it with H was an especially good time, because we could openly discuss what we thought was gonna happen. And yeah, I was damn impressed.

Re: When it comes to creepy,

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-05-10 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I give up. Can you still send it to me? I can pay for the disc and shipping or whatever.
