Wednesday's (alternative) Friday Five:
Friends, be filled with joy. For I have made for you,
I'm making this up. And I think you should all do and it credit me.
I'm a glutton for LJ credit of one kind or another.
And now, without further ado:

2. Five favorite never-miss TV shows from kidhood
Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom

5. Five falsehoods you believed in childhood that you wish were true now.
Duh, Santa--and that being good will get you rewarded.
That if you eat a watermelon seed, a watermelon would grow in your stomach.
If you drink hot water and cold water, a tornado will form in your stomach.
Stepping on a crack will actually break your mother's back.
Using your finger as a pretend spray gun will get icky germs and idiot residue off you.
Now you you, and disperse my beautiful meme throughout the Internet.
or you know...don't if you don't feel like it.

It's late and I'm not allowed out after dark. Or before sunrise. One of those. I'm like a gremlin.

I get cool stuff in my stocking every year.
That's what happens when you leave Santa a fat blunt.

Speaking of santa, we were talking about the depression in class and how hard it was to get such things as coal....someone mentioned that her mom always said if she didn't behave - she'd get coal in her stocking...would that have been a good thing during the depression?

I need to write a short story where the bad kids stay warm and the good kids freeze to death amid a pile of cool toys.

The Monkees (syndicated--how old do ya think I am?)
I remember watching The Monkees every summer when they would play the reruns in syndication. Years later--I think it was the first part of 2000--I made a reference to Columbo and this guy says to me: "You know, you're dating yourself by referring to Columbo." I realized later I should have shot back with, "There's such a thing as syndication/reruns, ya know!" I was born in 1970 too, so I wasn't around or too young to watch a lot of shows that I later became familiar with just because they showed reruns of them on TV. I was telling a friend of mine about buying the first season of Rod Serling's Night Gallery on DVD because I wanted to get this particularly scary episode I remembered seeing years ago. I told him how the Night Gallery was on from 1970 to 1973, I think. Maybe it was until 1974. And my smartass friend says, "I was born in 1974." Again, I should have said, "Well, there's such a thing as reruns, ya know!" I didn't see Night Gallery until I was like 12 or 13 when they started showing them on TV on some local channel in my area.

I totally hear that. One of my favorite shows as a kid was Leave it to Beaver reruns. But there's almost no point in mentioning them online...most of these kids don't even know what a muppet it.
As for Night Gallery, I was disappointed with the lack of spunk the 1st season DVD set had. Although, just to own that story with Roddy McDowell, Ossie Davis, and the paintings--fuck, that thing is still scary now!! Like TZ, NG has so many gems and wonderful performances. it seems like Victor Buono was dropping by the set a lot. ;-}

Yes, I did like the story with Roddy McDowell and Ossie Davis. I thought that was really well done. I also loved Roddy in Hell House, if you've ever seen that movie. I bought the DVD set because I wanted to see "The Dead Man" again. I thought that story was really clever. I wish it would have been me who had written it, but it was Franz Leiber instead. :-P
I shouldn't say this because where the same age and I don't want you make feel like I did, but watching that season that was shot the year I was born really made me feel weird because it really hit me how much the world has changed since 1970. My reaction was, "Hmm . . . this is making me feel really old!"

That doesn't even make sense. If your friend can think of someone cooler than Lumpy Rutherford or Violet Dennison, why I'd certainly like to know about it. ;-}
I do feel old when I watch certain 70's movies. Harold and Maude came out when I was 1, and that's one of my all time faves (which is saying something, since horror is my genre).
Oh, and speaking of NG, what's up with the paintings not being put on the DVD? Suck. At least they are still here.
