I've read many an Encyclopedia Brown book in my day, and some of mine are still at my parents' house. In fact, I peeked at a couple of them the last time I visited. I can say with certainty that the spelling was "Encyclopedia Brown", but this does not mean that it has never been spelled another way. Next time I'm in the U.P. (which should be late May), I'll check the print date on the books.
