Up all night *cue Boomtown Rats* Writing.

I have written over 4k of fairly decent words in the last two days. That's pretty good, if I do say so. I'm going to try to get a sizable bite into the next chapter tomorrow and hopefully finish it by Sunday night/Monday morning. This last chapter was a mindfucker, because it's Odovacar's back story. This means it's my cathartic working out of what the hell happend with my former friend and that awful goddamn shooting. So it's a difficult read, but one I think will ultimatley enhance the emotional impact of the story, you know...once I finish it. Anyway, it's posted You-Know-Where (psst. [livejournal.com profile] wednes_writes).

I also want to rewrite my Sadie query so I can start sending that out to potential agents. Yeah, I've been sending out my manuscript for a year (I know, that's not very long) but I'm not really getting anywhere. Hopefully some agent will love it and know of 4 different houses who will likely get involved ina bidding war over me. Mmmm...bidding war...
I'm also going to work on my synopsis some more even though I hate it so very, very much. I think I'd rather read rejection letters all day long that condense my heartfelt opus into five pages of cold facts about plot and theme with none of the subtely and amazing prose that makes it so amazing in the first place. I'm just saying...I hate doing the synopsis. Plus, is it wrong to try to sell something as different genres? There's a lot of crossover, it seems. Dramas and thrillers can be horror, and horror can be black comedy (as I've said many times before). What are the ethics of that? Anyone know?

Been thinking about a new chair for my living room (well, moreso for me than the room). Not a NEW new one, but one that is new to me and presumably newer than the one I have. Mine is pretty much falling apart from frequent sitting and occasional cat-clawing. I like it though, I wouldn't mind getting another just like it. Plus, it's like fifteen years old, which is pretty good for a chair that's been moved to like, 12 different apartments. So if you know anyone selling a cheap, comfy chair near me, do let me know.

Recently I've made a descision about the last three Star Wars movies. While watching the crazed fans was fun, and the new fight sequences were bad-ass, I just was not very impressed. I think the best thing to come out of all those movies is Mace Windu. When I said this to this jackass I know, they said, and I quote: "Who the hell is Mace Windu" I know. It's utter jackassory. So in case YOU don't know who he is, he's this guy. *shakes head* Doesn't know who Mace Windu is...honestly!

Since some of you have asked, I shall let it be known that I am damn, damn excited for the remake of The Hills Have Eyes. And guess what, bitches? Ted Levine is in it. So put the fucking lotion in the basket, and come pick me up to see this movie. You know, when it opens.

What bothered me most about the new trilogy was that Lucas simply threw everything into it. If he wanted a cute talking sink, he computer-generated a cute talking sink. The last episode itself seemed like pure sensory overload. I could watch that beginning space battle again another dozen times or two and still not see everything that was thrown at the screen. Call me old or old-fashioned, but I missed the relatively subtler essence of IV and the character of V all throughout the new trilogy.

Looks like Ted is the dad in the Hills remake.

The Hills trailer is so awesome. There's also a clip of one of the horrible murders floating around online as well.

I think episode V had just a whole gamut of emotion involved. At no other time in the 3 new films did I really feel as frightened, or angry or sad as I did during the original tril. And I don't just mean because I was a kid then and I'm grown now. Empire still chokes me up at the end.

*nods* Yep, on the Star Wars stuff. Empire is still my favorite, by a long margin. I am rather fond of Count Dooku, though. Christopher Lee and all. And there's that Liam Neeson obsession of mine, too ...... I'm sorry, where were we? ; )

Well, the new movies are hottie-intensive. I give you that. But if I had a choice between watching any of/all three movies, or watch that Clone Wars cartoon from TV, I'd totally take the cartoon. that shit is awesome, BTW, if you've never seen it.

I've never seen it. Will have to look for it.

I'm kinda glad I have no idea who Mace Windu is. That's not so wrong, huh? Having just recently seen and loved 'The Hills Have Eyes', I'm not sure I can share your joy as I'm a remake hater from the getgo anyhow. Besides, wasn't 'Devil's Rejects' almost a remake? I mean, it wasn't but it sure felt like it in tone and everything.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-02-19 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Funny you should mention Rejects since I credit Rob Zombie for bringing back this genre. It's nice to see it getting such a good response, frankly (even if it does kind of showcase some of the sickest members of society). His movies certainly pay strong homage to earlier films, but they are original (and envelope pushing) enough to make them worth my while. Plus, his wife is pretty hot.

I tend to reject the knewwjerk remake hating that goes on. Some remakes are shit, granted. But plenty of "original" movies are shit too. If someone has a profound respect for the original material combines with something relevant and new, I'm willing to check it out and decide on a case by case basis. The fact that I think the new Dawn of the Dead is a good watch in no way detracts from the original.

So you know, why don't you spark one up...a remake, that is.
;-}

maybe you're right. i dunno. i just think that everything would be so much better off if somebody tried something new. some happy appropriation is always fun and accepted but why not just leave true classics alone? i think it was the 'psycho' remake that really fucked me up. i had no answers as to why somebody would touch that.

i guess my normal response in these times in the fence-sittingly one where i say there are too many movies i need to see first so i'll only get around to 'lesser' films (remakes...uggh) after that. your opinion and reasoning are always bang on, however. i'm glad there are more open-minded folk around 'cause us sticks in the mud ain't helpin' matters much.Ñ

i think it was the 'psycho' remake that really fucked me up.

Even though I really enjoyed Vince Vaughn's performance, I can totally see your point on this. They added some small changes for emphasis, even one shot being held a bit longer can make a profound difference in the theme of a scene. That makes it worth it for me.

I felt similarly to you when I heard they were ramaking The Omen, since I love it so much. I was outraged. Then I saw the cast, and now I'm damn excited. So I thinka wait and see attitude is warranted except int he case of something truly egregious...like Amityville Horror. The original wasn't even any good.

I completely agree re: new star wars flicks. to me they're just completely different kinds of movies than the original trilogy, and not at all as good. they make me laugh when I shouldn't be laughing, for one thing. and yeah, I feel close to nothing emotionally.

as for to overload of CG effects, to me nothing looks more fake. I'm SO tired of that shit. I wish people would just make actual stuff, like a freakin' Jabba suit with guys inside, instead of just CGing it. it looks so much more real and cool. yeah, the CG stuff is neat-o and you can do awesome stuff with it, but JEEZ, that doesn't mean the entire damn movie should be that way...I feel like these days a lot of people see star wars and all they care about is "wow, look how neat everything looks!" as though that's enough to make it good. wow, I'm ranting.

Right you are, ma'am!

I have long held the theory that if movies would scrap just one unneccesary special effect, and use that money to hire a competant writing team that we'd have better films all around.

That said, I really, really loved watching the Yoda fight, but that's just because I love Yoda from way back. If it had been done with puppetry, the scene would have been half as long. So CGI does have it's place, IMO, but it's used way too much in leiu of plot...and that's just stupid.

Besides, when it comes to the validity of practical makeups, I refer to Tom Savini's wisdom. I figure he knows best.

Sign me up for some Ted Levine!!
