*slaps self on head* Of COURSE!!!

I just realized that the reason almost no one is coming to my New Years Eve Party isn't because I'm boring and unpopular. It's because New Years was actually several months ago. Besides, I only had this party because Kassy asked me to; and now she is sick. If I'd known 75% of my guest list was (once again) not going to show up, I'd have totally gone out tonight. And now I'll tell all of you what I told [livejournal.com profile] spiralwitch: I hope these hot hors d'ouvres are good, because it looks like I'mma gonna be eating them for awhile.

So because there's nothing else really going on tonight except pot smoking and self pity, please enjoy this article on the Dutch Paganland known as Flanders. Not to be confused, of course, with Flanders.

Resolutions?

Okay, since you asked, I'll make one resolution:

To learn to respect and validate myself while still recognizing (without self denegration) that I am a work in progress.

So take THAT, Guernica!

I love you and I'm sorry that I suck and that I'M the one babysitting. Only Ryan wouldn't want it called that. (Um, check my post maybe?)

I always stress so much before a party; because one of my most pressing fears is that no one likes me after all. But as it happens, we had a fun time and way too much food.

Of course I totally understand why you couldn't come.

Hmm.

Yes, but I'm sure i don't need to explain that fears plague our minds far more than mere reality.

That's why in horror movies the monsters you can't see are the scariest.

No, in horror movies the scariest monsters are scary little girls. *shudders* But that may just be me.

Well yeah, they are scary too.

That's why I play Lunch Money so infrequently.

I have a love-hate relationship with horror. I love it, but it's terribly effective on me. Everytime I watch (or think about too much) a particular horror movie I can't sleep for a week.

It's why I have both Project Zero games, but I refuse to play them. I refuse to even look at the game after the sun sets.

I feel very similarly about horror. I love it so much because it seems so powerful to me. So in writing horror, it's like wielding that power over people--people who are willingly subjecting themselves to it. For someone like me, who often feels powerless, it's a most inviting genre.

I wonder though, if I might get my fill of it after a while and move on, like Poppy Brite.

I understand that - I tried to arrange a get-together for ppl a work once and only one person showed up. That was 13 people who didn't. Now, most had a good excuse (like they really DID have plans already - it was in the beginning of Sep in 04). Others didn't do a thing and were offended b/c I'd even asked. I have no idea why. Three of those who didn't show up eventually DID do something with me and two of them actually invited me somewhere later and went to dinner with me a few times between work and classes. I wasn't ME for the most part - it was my timing. The rest were jerks anyway. I was informed by the nice people that they were a bunch of snots that just thought the whoel idea was stupid because either a) there would be no drinking involved or b) they didn't like kids and thought some people would bring theirs. Oh well. Stupid bunch of snots. I think EVERYONE likes you - just that we all have issues at the same time or obligations. I usually get obligations (usually family) around the hoildays. That, and everyone lives far away from me.

Thanks Anne. I appreciate all of that. I'm actually having some medication isues right now; so I'm prone to freak outs.

"one of my most pressing fears is that no one likes me after all"
I feel that. Sometimes the fear can be quite heavy.
Just know, that you are very well liked/loved my honorary cousin.

Why thanks!

It turns out that the few of us had a very nice time.
Not quantity of guests, but quality as they say...
