DVD addendum

Would you beleive I talked all about DVD's without mentioning that I finally watched the DVD sent to me by Lj's own [livejournal.com profile] paulcurtis??? I know, it's fairly scandalous.

Even though I've always lived in the good ol' US of A, I have maintained an abiding love for Rik Mayall, for the last 20 years or so. When The Young Ones first came to Mtv, I watched religiously. In fact, The Young Ones and Tales from the Crypt are the main (older) shows I would like to own but don't...although that's not counting huge shows like Twilight Zone or Night Gallery, or expensive ones like The Monkees (which I'm not buying until a non-Rhino version is released).

Rik's current show is the British version of on-again-off-again FOX show: Arrested Development. The main difference between the two is that Mayall's show is less filled with objectionable characters. Oh yeah, and I'm watching it!! It's called All About George and is damn entertaining. It took me long enough to watch it all, (the first 3 eps) but man was it worth it. And pot jokes? You Bet!!

Sadly, most Americans know Rik Mayall only as Drop Dead Fred (which is also damn entertaining, for those who haven't seen it--it has Carrie Fisher, Phoebe Cates and that guy who played Otter in Animal House). But if you look carefully, you can also see Rik playing chess in the pub scene of the John Landis classic: An American Werewolf in London. He was also the cut-from-the-final-edit voice of Peeves the Poltergiest in this movie that most of you have never heard of. *wink*

So big thanks to [livejournal.com profile] paulcurtis, and to Rik.
I am thoroughly entertained!

And now...I'm off to make a tuna melt...presumably by dipping it in lava.

Mad props on the mention of the Young Ones (which I watched with my dad on MTV when I was a wee kid, never saw again until 2001 when my friend Chad had the episodes on vhs and brought them to my house, and never saw again after that until a couple of weeks ago when I borrowed the dvd from Sharon, which I have watched over the aforementioned last couple of weeks.)

Incidentally, I just moments ago amended something on my profile to include a Vyvyan quote!

Nice.

I've had that damn box set on my wish list for well over a year now, to no avail. It hasn't dropped in price much, which I should think is a testament to it's quality.

The new show is good, if you can gt your hands on it.

Oh, and which quote? Nevermind, I'll look.

You know just what to say about All About George to make me want to watch. It's already been recommended to me, but I haven't been able to find it.

(I will also say that I've always found Rik Mayall to be a big fan of the funny voice. Which I'm not so down with. For me, his talent is eclipsed by that.)

I don't know if it's availible around the US or not. I was fortunate enough for someone to send it to me.

I'll investigate the possibility of copying the 3eps I have.
I'll let you know if I'm successful.

Sweeeeeet.

I'll be glad to burn an extra set...and you'd probably like the rest of the series, right? (Eps 4-6)

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2005-12-20 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Well yeah. That'd be swell.

I wasn't going to inquire, since I took so long watching the first 3 eps.
