I could vomit with rage...

Man, after all the touble I went to to get this interview with Franks, and to reschedule after they already flaked on me...

I have come to realize that they will never, ever hire me. First off, they gave me one of those long-ass personality tests which are illegal to require for employment. I started doing it until I became so furious at the obvious trickery and the fact that they want you to do long, complex math thingys (I'm not talking about cashier math, I mean like figuring profit percentages, mark-ups and inventories IN YOUR HEAD). So I stopped doing it and let the tears of frustration fill the air around me.

I then looked over the stuff and learned they can reject you for having any criminal record (usually its any felony or misdemenor within 5 years). I'm not a felon, but the rest is truly no ones business. They also do random checks for illegal drug use (so the place is probably teeming with alcoholics), and random credit checks. CREDIT CHECKS??? How the fuck do I fix my credit without a goddamn job? Plus they wanted me to sign something that basically says its okay for them to talk to freinds, former co-workers etc for the express purpose of "making an informed decision about whom is employed by them". God knows what some of our former co-workers would say about us... How many of you peeps out there had to pass a credit check for your current job?

I say, fuck them. Random drug tests to work in a plant store? Pleeeze. Am I being silly? I mean, I do need/want a job, but not a crooked one. If I can't smoke pot at home after work, how come they can give me illegal tests, and stand me up for an interview? It's crap, I tells ya, CRAP!

Yeah, at first I thought I'd skimp around it, but why?

I'd hate to be on such a mangement team, I don't even like telling people to tuck thier shirts in.

I appreciate the support. You rock.

This is the second time I've heard about this in a week or so.

My love, currently a WI resident, is out looking for a second job and got the same credit check schtick pulled on her as well by a couple of employees. Her reaction was exactly the same as yours. I can't see what relevance someones financial situation has to anyones ability to do a job, either. Its completely outrageous that they even ask for it, IMHO.

...and as for piss-testing, what are people ? race horses ?

Its at moments like these that I really appreciate European legislation with regard to work...No credit checks, no piss-testing, longer holidays, more sick time and the entire month of August off ( if you live in France, apparently ;) )

I understand that cashiers are allowed to work seated in Europe, and that people are expected to bag thier own groceries.

Wouldn't that be a joy. My lumbar would be eternally grateful for such a practice.

I have worked with too many incompetant alcoholics to feel okay about drug testing. Here many companies to hair testing...I haven't had more than a trim in 3 years.
