Obviously, this "Zod" character is going to be in several episodes. We will undoubtedly learn more about Krypton, and I would not be surprised if it is Zod who is ultimately responsible for the death of Jonathan Kent...because you know that's coming.

I also suspect that Chloe will be killed by Lex, thereby solidifying both Lex's villany and Lois's desire to be a journalist. And how much longer do you suppose Lionel Luthor will be around??

I find it oddly suspicious that Clark and Chloe had a whole conversation about his powers and her knowing about them...without ever mentioning Pete. My biggest problem with Smallville is that no one ever seems to mention people after they die or leave the show. That is pretty unrealistic in terms of character development. Shouldn't they all know, having been through high school, that kids who die get a special spread in the yearbook? Of course in Smallville, there is probably a whole section for all the kids who die, mutate or go crazy in any given school year.


In Wednes news, I'm getting my hair cut by my new stylist in just a few short hours. Then later, I'm hosting what I hope will be the first of many sober movie nights for the girls in my group. My new cat is here, hiding under the bed. He's a little nervous, but once he comes out I'll be sure to post some pics. I haven't decided on a name yet, trying to decide which of the names I was debating suit him best. Neither Fergus nor Ruteger will work for this particular cat, so I had to start again.

And finally, "Oh Shit," say scientists. Someone should do a meme about what superintelligent future animal will annihilate the planet us first. I always assumed it would be a toss-up between and apes/chimps and the elephants, with the dolphins remaining solely in the water until they develop feet and/or thumbs.

Is it? I assumed it was Zod because it came from the ship. Is Brainiac from Krypton? I'm not large with the Superman comics.

Zod was General Zod in the movies -- Terence Stamp, who is now the voice of Jor-El. The woman would have been Ursa. The other fellow, Non.

Brainiac at least visited Krypton. He captured a Kryptonian city in a shrinking ray, and it eventually ended up in the Fortress of Solitude.

I have indeed, seen Superman 2 a zillion times. At first I assumed the black dude was Zod, but at the end it seemed clear that Zod was the real problem. I presume that is why Clark will get his powers back.

Of course, Jonathan may go to Jor El and ask for Clark's powers back. He seemed more upset than Clark at his losing them.

FYI--I love Terrence Stamp. I saw him in The Collector when I was pretty young. Before seeing him in Superman 2 even...although I don't think I put together that they were the same guy until I was a bit older.

What I don't understand is how Jor-El could take Clark's powers away? I've always understood that the Earth's yellow sun is what granted Kal his powers, and that Jor-El sent him here specifically to take advantage of that.

My nit-picking logic would want the absence of powers to be something less Godlike. Maybe something to do with the Phantom Zone Projector that Clark was almost pulled into by "Ursa" and "Non." Perhaps it is a Kryptonian environment and once exposed to such an environ, much like Kyrptonite itself, it takes Clark a while to be reaffected by Earth's yellow sun.

I really enjoy the way Smallville has played homage to the movies with the cameos and the guest appearances, much in the same way the movies did with the original TV series.

Too long since I've seen The Collector. :-(

It's true that Smallville takes some pretty crazy liberties with canon, even by my non comic reading standards. Kara's appearance at the end of season 3 made only the slightest bit of sense; but it did set a precident for Jor El giving people powers at least. The movies never gave me the impression that Jor El had any sort of grand plan for his son beyond getting him to safety.

Also: I agree that Jonathan seemed most upset about Clark losing his powers. It's as if Jonathan truly understands the whole myth from the beginning, and that's incredibly ironic and sad since he's potentially the only loss.

I also find it funny how they fatally threaten Martha almost every season, when that just ain't gonna happen unless they re-write the movie dogma.

I agree with the Martha in peril angle. I think they do it so John Schnieder gets to be all emotional at least once per season. Such a handsome fellow...I had a crush on him 25 years ago, and he's still HOT.

Here in Illinois I live close to a town which actually calls itself Metropolis, and they of course take advantage of that name by making their local festival Superman related, have a museum in town, etc. For this year's festival, John Schneider and Margot Kidder were the guests of honor. I actually spoke to Margot and was about as far from John as you are to the end of your desk. Folks were running after John in the streets screaming: "Come back, Bo, come back!"
