Actually, "Nocturnal Exploration" sounds kind of sexy.

I've reached a two-fold conclusion about people who vehemently hate Harry Potter fans and want to spoil thier fun. I don't mean the Fundies who fear the mere mention of magic or those who "just don't get it" and just kind of shake thier heads in bewilderment. I mean those a-holes that tried thier best to spoil the 6th book or who resort to childish name calling and juvenile mockeries. First, they are envious that they did not write novels that make zillions of dollars. Aren't we all. But they are also really envious of anyone who appears to be having a better time than they. And we Harry Potheads have a blast, nerdily discussing theories and wearing silly hats and buying fun accessories. They are grown-up versions of kids who went around snatching candy-bags from children on Halloween. The funny thing is, thier attitude is far more childish and ridiculous that simply reading a book intended for young people. /end rant.

Got my cuisinart blade in the mail. I was worried I wouldn't have it for the housewarming and that my dips would suffer as a result. But no. My menu is finalized and my shopping is almost done. Wheee!
I love parties.

Normally, I'd use that comment to go off on a smallish rant on hwo they are epic stories along the lines of Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, King Arthur and the like. They are fun, highly moral, and enjoyable reads. There is also the pbvious bonus that it intrduces kids to recreational reading since the average public school squeezes the life out of any books they teach.

But the simple fact is that you don't have to hate/be mean to/spoil lit for fans because you happen to prefer a different kind of lit. I didn't hold "Neo Dies" posters up outside screenings of Matrix 3 even though I think action movies suck. To do so would be malicious and juvenile...which is exactly the attitude HP bashers supposedly decry.

That's all I'm saying.

I agree with you that it's immature and all that but part of me (the rebel) sorta likes the idea of what they're doing since I have no desire to read them and find the whole thing a little weird in its magnitude. I think all popular culture and whatnot should be taunted equally...just to make people think. Like, was there a worse sitcom than 'Friends' or 'Frasier'? They were painful. Otherwise, I don't care what people do...and you know I've been reading non-fiction for the last five or six years anyway, so I'm out of the loop.

But that's just it. I wouldn't watch Friends if you paid me, but I know plenty of people who like it...I only mock them a little. Frasier, OTOH, I find hilarious and clever.

I stayed away from HP for awhile too because I was put off by how insanely popular it all was. Since most humans are idiots, I presumed that HP was idiot fodder. Once I gave it a sincere read, I really liked it. It has a lot of relevant social commentary about classism, good and evil, you know...the major themes.
There is a stereotype about sdult ners who get waaaay to nerdy about things. But I'm not going to avoid books I enjoy so as not to be percieved as a stereotype.
