Since the new book comes out this weekend, this is really our last chance to theorize about what might happen in this book.

I have a theory about Professor Severus Snape and specifically why Dumbledore doesn't want him teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts. Not a huge revalation, of course. But when you think in terms of hitting "rock bottom" and recovery and all that...the Dark Arts are Snape's "drug of choice". So even though Snape may think that he, himself is "cured" of his addiction to the Dark Arts; Dumbledore knows that if Snape should indulge himself in anything DA related he could easily relapse.

It appears from the information given, that Snape was a powerless kid who latched onto hating "mudbloods" rather than dealing with his own shit. That is why rascism is so prevailent amongst the poor and uneducated. People stuck in a rut with no will to change often look for someone to blame (see Germany pre WWII).

I'm also hoping we get to see Snape do some serious "spy" stuff amongst the Death Eaters and that Karkaroff shows himself at least long enough to be killed.

You said it yourself, he's doing spy shit. Lots of DA with the Death Eaters.

I guess that's true...because of his Occlumency skill, Snape is the best man for that job.

I just really want to hear Dumbledore's reasoning for not giving Snape that gig. Seems like he'd be damn fine at it.

He's leaving the position open for when potter graduates.

I have assumed that will be Harry's gig as well, eventually. That's when Snape will totally snap and kill him.

I'm not sure quite what to expect. I'm almost through re-reading Goblet of Fire, soon to be re-reading Order of the Phoenix- hopefully finishing it by Saturday in time to have Mom start reading the new one aloud to the family. (It's kinda traditional.)

I'm interested to see how they're going to bring back Sirius, 'cause you know it *has* to happen.

I imagine Harry will use that mirror thingy to talk to Sirius. There is probably a painting or two with him somewhere at 12 Grimmauld.

Ha! I'm rereading Goblet as well with basically the same plan in mind. Of course, my own mom will not be involved in my Hp experience.

I'm certain that they are NOT going to bring back Sirius. She didn't bring back Cedric. This may be a fantasy world, but the facts of life still apply. When someone dies, they don't come back.

And to Wednes, there will be no paintings of Sirius, at least not at his families home. They would have burned them all, just like they burned him off of the tapestry.

Care to place a wager on that? I'm certain Sirius will be back before the end, most likely in book 6.

I like your idea on Snape. I've never really focused on the, "No DADA for you!" issue, since I've been preoccupied with, "Sure, I'll trust you, you old Death Eater, you!" The temptation factor adds something interesting to his character. He's an interesting guy, our Snape.

I'm most looking forward to our promised back story and answers instead of questions. I've invested years of my life in this and I'd like to know in what exactly I've been investing. The thing about Harry's eyes is particularly interesting. I know I don't want it to be a Superman-type, "I'll kill you with my gaze!" thing or a Piggy-in-Lord-of-the-Flies-type, "My eyes are my greatest weakness!" thing, but I don't really have any ideas. It'd be lame if it was just another love connection to Lily.

I'm also greatly excited about a marathon reading. So much fun.

Plus I just realized that the kids are going to be dating like crazy. Harry will be looking for a new love interest, having gotten over Cho. And something cool will have to happen with Neville.

To be honest I'm anticipating reading about Neville more than I am about Harry.

i just finished rereading all of the books and neville is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. i'd forgotten how much we really get to know him in the fifth book. now that he's starting to conquer his fear, i think he'll turn into a quite formidable wizard.

i'd like to see, before the series ends, snape realize that harry isn't james and stop holding james' misdeeds against him. i do think that harry will eventually get the DA job and i can also see hermione teaching although she'd have trouble settling on which subject to teach.

i wasn't supposed to finish this book until tomorrow night. now i'm all antsy and impatient for the next one. maybe i can find one of those places selling them early. *laugh*

I think I'm the only person who doesn't think Harry will become DA teacher at the end of seven. I see why it looks like it's headed in that direction. But it seems a little too obvious. Besides he will only be turning 18 the summer he graduates, too young to start teaching in my opinion.

I'd like to see Harry and Snape sit down and talk about their problems. I think one good conversation where they weren't spitting poison at each other would be helpful.

LOL! I just read a BBC article about how it's illegal to read any part of the book before Saturday, even if you do find a place that will sell it (and there have been several).

I would guess Hermione would want to teach Arithmancy.

Dumbledore will die, ala jedi, you cant become the master until your teacher and confidant is dead!

Could be. That would leave Minerva as headmistress, which I fully support.
