When I stand on the mountain and say "do it" it gets done!

I'm not big on celebrating holidays...well regular ones anyway. I make a big deal of birthdays just as a way of making merry to appreciate how much I value having certain people in my life. Other than birthdays, I could give a rats ass about holidays in general.

However...

For lame types like me who are home most evenings, TV serves up the love over holidays.
Marathons, movie specials and more marathons abound.

And tonight, in just about an hour, the REAL version of Helter Skelter is coming on. Last night they played Sybil and I actually missed The Day After though I may try for the replay tomorrow. Anyway, I saw Helter Skelter as a kid and was fascinated by it.

I just love that Steve Railsback. He was in the awesome Ed Gein movie that is now called In the Light of the Moon. He is also appreaing in Devil's Rejects which I hear opens very soon.

So hey everybody, gather 'round your sets and let Uncle Charlie show you a thing or two about The Crazy.

Can you believe they actually censored bits of the Day After on TVLAND? Like OH! Lets censor a movie about how horrible Nuclear war is! While they are at it, why not just have everyone pronounce it Nukular like the President does too.. Whoopie!

Hrmph! I didn't know they did that. They seemed to leave Helter Skelter alone at least. That is pretty crappy. Now that I think of it, I was wondering why Charlie was brandishing a walkie-talkie at Shorty. I could have sworn he was shot...

I fancy myself a minor-league student of TV editing. Like how the word "nigger" was all over TV in the 80's and now they won't even say it on the news when it's part of a story. There was a local judge under fire for using "rascist comments, including but not limited to the N-word". Imagine, grown people saying N-word.

Like most words, it's only harmful if said with hate.

Also interesting is the Godfather (Novel for television, not the TV airing of the theatrical version). They cut out words like "ass" and "bastard" (which are heard in primetime shows ad nauseaum) while leaving in tons of various racial slurs. They still use the 70's editing when they air it today.

I saw it on tvland last night and I noticed quite a bit of censoring. The part where Susan says to Ronnie Howard while their in cybil brand, "Look bitch, I dont care about you, I dont care about your baby." They censored bitch and it just killed the whole impact of that scene. And when Danny Decarlo was talking about Charlie killing the black panther, they censored "nigger." How did this movie ever originally get aired on network TV?

I meant "while they were in cybil brand." When I type fast my grammar is atrocious.

I guess I did notice that, but thought I had remembered it wrong. As I mention above, it is interesting to contrast acceptable language on TV by decade.

So I take it that you didn't care for the remake of HS. I realize that its hard to remake perfection, but the thing that I liked about the new vresion was that it took the story from a different angle. If you read the book which I am sure that you have, it talks a lot about the beach boys and terry melcher, and the fact that terry melchers house was creepy crawled and then later roman polansky bought that house and thats why sharon tate ended up dead, it wasnt random. But the original HS movie doesnt explain that. Plus the new version shows some of the psychological conditioning that Manson put on his followers. Anyway, I like both versions and the book. Say Wednes, have you ever read the book "The Garbage People"? If not you should put it on your amazon list. Oh and I found you on amazon and added you to my favorite people on there.

Oh, right on. I try to keep my amazon list pretty short, but it's been getting out of hand lately.

I still have not been able to see the HS remake. I imagine there will be plenty of things to like about it. I'm just so goddamn poor right now.

I have not read Garbage People, but will look into it.
Thanks, man.
