Alright dammit...

I've commented about this enough times that I guess it's just time to post my thoughts. People, calm down! Cookie Monster accepting cookies as a "sometime food" doesn't hurt you or your childhood in any way. It is not blasphemy ala "Cathy & Irving" or "Loonatics". Okay, for adults, the news that cookies should not be constantly shoveled down your gullet is old news. But it is a valid lesson for 3 year olds.

Sesame Street has the opportunity, and probably the duty, to bring good lessons to kids. Just let them do it already! Changes such as Snuffy's visibility and Big Birds nest blowing down not only choked me up, they represent an unsurpassed level of societal awareness and positive message giving. Not to mention that Sesame Street was committed to mulitcultural casting 20 years before it became fashionable.

Moving on, tonights L&O TBJ was the best yet. I like seeing Jamie Ross as a judge without any eye makeup. I can't remember the last time I saw a woman on scripted television without eye liner. Neat! And apparently, Detective Green is going to get shot next week. So that will be some shit!

With regard to racism, I can't beleive there are still people who say minorites "can't be racist because you can't oppress up." This is absurd. Racism isn't simply oppression, it is an expression of hatred. If you hate someone because of thier race, then you are a racist.

Have you heard about this school district where teachers aren't allowed to correct papers with red pens? Aparently, red ink is too upsetting for students. First of all, red pens being upsetting is connotative because people associate it with scolding on paper. So changing the color only makes a temporary difference. If red were that upsetting, fire trucks and the flag of Japan would piss me off a lot more.

I've been reading tarot cards for money these days since I don't have an income. Anyone who would like a reading may feel free to Email me.

I had a lovely evening of dinner with Kassy. She brought me a Harry Potter pop-up book and a gift certificate for Borders. Mmmmmm...Borders.

I think a lot of people use "racism" and "race discrimination" or "prejudice" interchangeably, when there is actually a dynamic difference between the two. While anyone can be prejudiced or discriminatory, "racism" requires the added effect of Power Over that minority groups just don't have. Under that definition (which is not a "dictionary" definition but more of a social sciences definition), minority races cannot be racist against the majority race.

racism = racial prejudice + power

racism needs power?? ug, if someone calls a black man a racist, EVERYBODY knows what it means, its just language, and language is too confusing as it is. a wise man said ".....the creator of all violence, without speech there will be no deceit" everybody is a fuckin racist. my sister got mugged on the train the other day, she was called a 'white bitch' they had the power, there you go , they were fuckin racist. why cant we all get along and smoke crack like civilized assholes?

Oh heck yes! I do think minorities can be racist/prejustice. I know several black kids who think they own the schools and hate all white kids. Those kids, of course, are few and far between. Anthony has a prob with a kid like that in his class - his mom teaches across the hall. She's (I'm sure) aware of what's going on but she's got a new baby and I know her home situation sucks b/c she came up to me drunk and crying at a bar once. Let's say the kid's daddy is an asswhipe. A BIG asswhipe. While that doesn't excuse her kid from being one, she can't focus her attention on waht she needs to focus on (DaRius). She's a good teacher and very nice though. I don't think she's prejustice but her boy's daddy is. The boy learns from him and the thugs he hangs around. HOWEVER the kids in the neighborhood (and other classmates) are perfectly OK. It made me sad, though, when a neighbor kid (Manté, 6) said "When Anthony goes to Liberty (Elementary) I'll protect him. He shouldn't think that way. Sweet kid but SERIOUSLY.

I have wrestled most of my life with the irrational and racist fears my mother implanted in my during my youth. I am glad to say that I am fully aware of their absurdity, and I embrace other cultures now. If I didn't, Ann Arbor certainly would be an akward community to live in. It kills me when people say that all Asians are bad drivers, or that all Irishmen are drunks, etc... We are all individuals.

Mr Gregory corrected my English papers with a green pen, and getting less than a B still sucked in green.
And Cookie Monster is really cool.

OMG!!! LOL

My middle school wasn't allowed to grade with red pens! They said "red means stop, and discourages students. Green means go and makes them excell." It was so stupid. A red F sucks just as much as a green F.

For Cookie Monster, I just felt bad for Cookie Monster...only sometimes *sob* :)
TBJ was good, I stayed up to watch it, only my second time watching the show and I only watched it because of Jamie, one of the few lady ADAs that I liked (Jill Hennessey was the other one). Good episode though.
Green better not die. I will be pissed :)
I have nothing to say about racism, but the red ink thing...*sigh* let your children grow a set, thank you.
:D :D :D
