Tony Baretta: we hardly knew ye.
Not that you asked, but I will now regail you with my opinions on this whole Robert Blake business:
First I'll concede that all this interest in stars who murder is kind of silly. I'd like to blame the media and thier crazed excitement at having yet another well-known person to stalk and harass until the just after the trial. Overall, TV news's handling of such things is pretty gross. At the same time, I'm interested in what's going on. I just wish they'd present it more like actual news and less like a sensationalized movie of the week. Nowadays, almost every news channel looks like it was put together by the people at E!
Next I'll tell you that when it comes to Robert Blake, I'm a fan. I watched Baretta as a kid. I think In Cold Blood is a masterpeice, and his portrayal of the asperin popping killer was oscar-worthy. Even that TV movie where he played John List (family annihilator) was most compelling. Plus you know, he was Simon the Zealot in addition to being one of the Little Rascals.
That said, I am quite certain that he ordered the hit on his "wife". If he didn't order the hit, he is the luckiest dude to ever have a cockatiel sit on his shoulder. I was really sad when I first heard about all this, because unlike all this Michael Jackson business, I was pretty sure he was guilty from the start.
It seems that the jury found the testimony of the hit men unreliable, while finding Blake reliable. I guess that's the excuse they use when they find a famous person guilty. And you know? It's not really Blake's fault that Americans are all such stupid star-fuckers. Star-fucking is what got him into this mess in the first place, and star-fucking is what's letting him get away with murder. And that's not just an expression.
Bakely was not a wholesome person. Juries won't like her. From what I've heard, I don't like her either. However, juries probably wouldn't like me either. So for the record, I do not support juries choice to feel less compassion toward a murder victim just because they don't like them. Lucky for...well, a lot of people, you aren't allowed to murder people just because they are dicks, losers, or star-fuckers.
Of course there is still the small matter of the civil trial. And usually, those don't go as well for the famous. Because we Americans love famous people, but we are jealous of thier money.
So to sum up: yes the system sucks. Why? Too many Average Americans involved.
Thank you, and good day.

My main question is why any parent NOT after money would let their kid spend the night with a man in his 30's.

Did he do it? Yeah, probably.
(not that I'm trying to tempt you or anything. I just love my new icon.)
