I'm skipping out on my meeting tonight. I'm just feeling kind of lousy and draggy after having doubled my new meds. Now I'm taking 2 in the morning and 2 at night. I had zombie nightmares all night again, but I'm guessing that has more to do with my watching some of Dawn of the Dead remake last night, and less to do with the meds. Anyway, I'm still having my regular counseling appointment tomorrow, and meeting with the job counselor, and my psyche doc and my therapist again next week. Man, I'm feeling very like a patient these days.

Anyway, Weds night: biggest TV night of the week after Sunday. Wheee!

So, to ensure we Americans never offend anyone, particularly fanatics intent on killing us, airport security screeners will no longer be allowed to profile certain people. They must conduct random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, secret agents who are members of the President's security detail, 85-year old Congressmen with metal hips, and Medal of Honor winning and former Governor Joe Foss, but leave Muslim Males between the ages 17 and 40 alone lest they be guilty of profiling.

Let's send this to as many people as we can so that the Gloria Aldreds [sic] and other dunder-headed attorneys along with Federal Justices that want to thwart common sense, feel doubly ashamed of themselves - if they have any such sense.

And... verdammt. Yes, it is hard to conceive of finding bigots in such an otherwise accepting community (within bounds, I know, I know), but this just blows my mind.

Yeah, the mod stepped in. It seems like the person is just the sort that craves negative attention. I guess i just don't understand the psychosis of trolling...like what (if any) satisfaction people gain from doing it.

Hey, so I wanted to tell you (off-list) that I think Blinda is trying to get attention and we're just feeding that craving. She posted that same message on the gr_wiccan_pagan group, got a few angry responses, and turned around and posted it on the circle group! It's not like she didn't know it would piss people off, she had already pissed off another whole group with her ignorance! *sigh* As far as Debbie's post goes, she is well-versed in religious studies. She knows her stuff. Yes, the Crusades and the Inquisition happened, but there have been a lot of holy wars not as well publicized. I don't know as much as she does, but I think she was referring to Islam when she made the comment about Christianity not having the most violence done in its name. A lot of violence has been, and still is, perpetuated in the name of Islam. Check the resources she provided.

Interesting. I don't really know anyone in the community except john G, whom I havent' seen much of since college (sadly). At the time of my response, I thought that Debbie and the poster were one in the same; so that's my bad. I wasn't trying to start some kind of flame war, but I was really surprised to find such a post in a pagan forum. I was further incensed by the assertion that I oppose reproductive freedom.

Islam and Christianity are sects of the same basic faith. That is to say, they originate from the same God and the same basic ideals. The differences in the practice of these faiths is largely a combination of regional mores and Islams not having undergone so many reformations and splitting into various franchises the way Christianty has. Islam is "old school" whereas even the most dogmatic of fundie christians is liberal by comparison.

Certainly there is enough blame to go around when speaking of religious wars. It may be that I take Christian warring and hate-mongering that much more to heart because it occurs here in the US.
My main point was that by the logic asserted in the posted quiz, white christian men are just as likely to commit an act of terrorism as a muslim between 17-40.

I quit watching ER years ago...like when Benton left. Although I did tune in for like, 5 mintues one day and was fortunate enough to see that short, rude doc get his arm lopped off. Snap!

ER used to have a rule that no children under 12 would die on the show. Once they broke that rule on a regular basis, it became too hard for me to watch.

Such a rule could never be followed. It's unrealistic.

Just because it happens doesn't mean they have to show it. I'm sure the doctors go to the bathroom too; but we almost never see it.

But showing doctors going to the bath room has nothing to do with the topic of the show. Showing a representative sample of the people who go to a county ER is on topic.

It's disingenuous to make a promise to fans and then disregard it. They could still write a topical, truthful and compelling show without pushing the hot button of children dying during every sweeps period. Resorting to such obvious stimulus instead of coming up with better plots and richer character development is just lazy writing and not at all worthy of Crichton.

Yea they could. But ya know what? It's just television. And not worth that much emotional investment.

I love fried fish. It's the best thing about being Catholic. Not that i'm Catholic now, but I was confirmed...so I guess I could be in some ways, like if it gets me a discount on fried fish.

My parent's have bags of fish in the freezer if you want to come over for some fish and chips some day. Or I know a great resturant for fish and chips.

I was going to point out that in the past 50 years far more atrocities have been perpetrated by white people. It's easy when you pick and choose events on a biased nature.

Some people like to get attention any way they can. Some people, like whoever started that, will take negative attention just as easilyas postive. When I was in college I wanted to start a band called negative attention. Comeplete with catch phrase. Because negative attention is better than no attention. We would have called ourselves n/a for short. The internets have brought people together in ways that would have never been before. Good and bad for the internets. I think I just wanted to bring up n/a. I lost my point.

Anyways, I have to tell myself all the time not to generalize or stereo type because there are always exceptions.

This just strikes me as the sort of thing that is especially dangerous. A lot of people do take this sort of propaganda at face value without even stopping to consider how absurd it is. Racial profiling is just so offensive, it appalls me how many people even consider it seriously, much less support it outright.

It makes me ashamed of my fellow countrymen, and I don't like feeling that way. It was bad enough when my home state (a blue state, mind you) voted against adults marrying the partner of thier choice. It makes me sick; but I digress...
