Ask me what I think, this is what you get

As many of you know, I am highly suspicious of politicos in general. I said in the beginning and still maintain that both the moon landing and 9/11 were publicity stunts...the latter of which got way, WAY out of hand. I think that the Bush's people and Bin Laden's people orchestrated a display of crashing planes and killing a few prominent people in a place people would care about. I do not think they expected the WTC to fall and kill everyone inside, I think that was an accident. The planes were supposed to crash into the buldings, a few people killed and everyone outraged and terrified. Bush's approval ratings after 9/11 (when he had just stolen an election) went thru the roof. And Bush rode that one single issue for his entire first term.

Then came the hunt for Bin Laden. Odd how that never amounted to the capture, arrest, or even questioning of any actual Bin Laden's. No. If you recall, the first time somebody messed with WTC the only evidence was a van, some ahirs and some dust. Yet 3 days later they arrested some chump in Cairo...so don't tell me that the US doesn't have the resources to find the culprit, if they want to. Anywhoo... Somehow, focus was switched to Saddam Hussien, who wouldn't have any money or power at all if it wasn't for Bush senior hooking him up in the 80's. But now he's the bad guy. And when people say...'wait a minute, why are we going after this guy?" The resounding response was that Hussien was a Bad Man, and the world would be a safer place without him around. Fine, good. Let's get rid of the Bad Man. In fact, lets scour the globe to get rid of bad men all over the--what? no? Okay, aparently we don't care about bad men all over the world, just bad men with oil. I see.

So now we have everyone hysterical over 9/11. We have the passing of that Freedom Act or whatever that says people don't have to be told what they're being charged with, and can be held indefinatley without a lawyer. Yeah, becuase that's what America stands for. And we have hundreds of Americans who think Saddam hussien is responsible for 9/11. We have people suggesting that we bring back torture...but only for suspected terrorists. What they forget to mention is that pretty much any brown person is a suspected terrorist, and that as soon as the republicans have all the power they want--groups like the ACLU and Planned Parenthood will be considered terrorist organizations as well. See where I'm headed? And if you think this sounds like extreme liberal exaggerating, I'd suggest that you watch a lot more news.

Bush makes a series of enormous, ridiculous choices against not only his own countrymen, but against the entire United Nations. Now the whole world thinks we are rude, cowboyesque warmongering lunatics (even france) just because we are being led by a maniac. Funny, because our whole reason for going to Iraq in the first place was to stop those crazy people being led by a maniac. Oh yes, and the 100% true and verifiable fact that we had absolute proof that they were making Weapons of Mass Distruction. We sent a guy to look for them and when he didn't find any, we told him he wasn't looking hard enough. Turns out, it was the kind of prank that you pull with a new guy at McDonalds...where you send him into the non-existant basement or to fetch a case of some product that sounds reasonable but doens't exist at any Mcdonalds...like cherry danish. There never was any cherry danish; they've finally admitted it. It would be a downright humorous situation if so many people hadn't died in the desert for us to find that out.

In the end, the Bush camp stole two elections (each one more brazen than the last) and lied to the whole country about why we went to war, and who we were even going to war with. And all this while villifying Bill Clinton, because he lied about something that was no one's goddamn business in the first place. And that is some of why I hate Bush and thier people and all they stand for. I also hate the assertion that you are somehow immoral or wrong if you don't subscribe to every bigoted tenant of the fundamentalist christian church. I hate Bush's ignorant, Hank Hillesque view of America. But more than any of that, I am disgusted by the way We, the American People, just sit back and stand for it. Damn, I feel much better after having gotten that off my chest.

In other news, I'm going to Olivet for the evening tomorrow night (well, tonight actually) to participate in some "first night of pledging activities". I haven't been going for the last few years, mainly because I tend to work weekends. Not so THIS weekend, so I'm going! It'll be cool to meet all the new kids and sing the old songs, and hopefully there will be some alumni there that I want to see. I wanted to order a new house pin, since mine is still at my parents house if they havent' thrown it away or something. But of course I can't afford it right now. I also got a call to interview to manage in a DiBella's sub shop. Mmmm...subs. I'd hate to do food service, but I'm really sick of being out of work. I'll probably take this gig and keep looking.

If I am not mistaken, the baseball teams are privately owned. This should mean that the owner can choose to have a drug testing clause int he contract, and the players can choose if they want to sign for a team with those restrictions. If, however, the testing is mandated by the league, that is something else. I think it's okay to test for "performance enhancing" drugs like steroids, and that this is important to ensure fair play. As you know, I maintain that it is a persons private business if they want to use recreational drugs on thier own time. So I do not support testing for that. Besides, pot is hardly a performance enhancing drug...not in sports anyway ;-). Also, I was asleep when you called. I think you suspect that I am screening because why on earth would I be asleep at 8pm. The answer is becuase I was up all ngith writing, and all morning making job and doc related calls. So I slept in the afternoon/eve. Once I go abck on meds though, I'll have something like a regular sleep schedule. I do occasionally not answer the phone if I'm depressed and don't feel like talking, but not on the basis of whom is calling. I always pick up for a friend, espcially now that I have everyone in caller groups!

Anybody good with custom mood themes?

9/11 etc

I agree with everything you said, though it's not "hundreds of Americans think Saddam is responsible for 9/11", it's hundreds of THOUSANDS.

The mere fact that those that watch a SATIRICAL NEWS SHOW know more about FACTS than those that watch FOX NEWS succinctly defines the state we're in.

We're fucked.

Did you know that there's a bill before Congress to allow a President to sit longer than two terms?

I should say that the bill was introduced in 2003 and that it was headed by democrats.

Regardless, it doesn't change the IMPACT of the bill, now that W's got his "mandate".

Actually, I heard that a similar bill was proposed during Reagans last term. I want to say it would have no chance...but I have no faith in American voters anymore.

Why cant' we just put Jon Stewart in charge?

I would say that people should watch a lot less news and seek out fair news reporting like the kind that exists on community radio here in Canada and , I'm assuming, in the US. There are tons of sources for real news and they're easy to find if you're affluent enough to have Internet service or good radio reception. TV news is only making things worse due to the fact that nobody teaches how to understand context and the almighty questioning of authority.

It's still hard for me to come to grips with you having these opinions and still going to McDonalds...it's like oil and water. You must stop!

I just try to get my news from as many different sources as possible, so I can sort out what makes the most sense.

thinking for myself is a tasty option, but not as tasty as the new McDonalds mushroom grilled onion and swiss QP. Sorry.
