Go Crazy? Don't mind if I do...

Tonight we watched The remake of Manchurian Candidate with the crazy hot, Liev Schrieber. I enjoyed this movie, and will probably buy it when I get back to having money again. It has elements of a lot of crazy conspiracy movies like Enemy of the State, or The Net...and also has creepy elements like Psycho or Minority Report. This is a well scripted, intelligent film with some great performaces. Meryl Streep is something else as a hard-ass politician with a drive to succeed.

I also watched This amazing movie, The laramie Project tonight after getting bored with The Tune. Laramie Project has an amazing cast and is a very moving, if infuriating film. I'd been meanning to watch it for a long time, but put it off as i knew it'd depress the hell out of me. In a way though, it's comforting to see people expressing my outrage for me. Being pissed off all the time is very tiring.

I was supposed to go to an interivew with Vector today. It seems that the job requires that I have a car. Dammit. But I did get a call to interview for a receptionist gig at an orthodontist's. While I will likely lost that job to someone with more appropriate experience, I'd love to have it. So I've decided to allow myself to be stoked about it, at least until tomorrow when I start following up.

It appears that I will not remotely win January's session of NaNoWriYe. I just don't have it in me to do right now, though I am doing some editing and formulating some new ideas. Plus I want to write something with H, and that's not allowed. So I'm putting it off for now. My next session is scheduled for Feb 15th, so we'll see how I feel then.

Because that pill I took for years has been taken off the market: Serzone, I have been thinking that I'd better go get my liver checked out and make sure everything is cool. I remember I had to argue with the doc so he'd let me stop taking those pills, and all the while I was risking severe liver damage. That is The Suck! Anyway, I'll probably schedule myself an appointment to do that tomorrow.
Speaking of appointments, DOC went ahead and made me an appointment without telling me, and I'm supposed to call and confirm. What nerve! Besides, even with the last of my insurance from H I can't afford new glasses at this time, even though I'd really love some. I've been wanting some of those antique looking granny frames all the nerd girls are wearing. Plus I've decided i want a new haircut. You know, because I'm one of those chicks that changes her looks when she feels powerless about the direction her life is taking...or something.

Made H and I chicken piccata for the first time ever. That's where you pound the chicken flat with a mallet (which since I didn't have a mallet, I used a big can of pineapple juice), flour it and fry it, then make a tart lemony sauce to go on top. I must tell you that it was quite delicious.

What about the original 'Manchurian Candidate' with Lawrence Harvey? Surely that deserves your money. I've heard nothing but (surprise) bad things about the remake in comparison. Have you seen the original? Any opinions?

I have not seen the original (I know, for shame!), even though I always intended to.

After all, isn't that the movie that made the horse head show up in that guy's bed? Surely I'd have to support violence like that.

What? The horse head is the Godfather.

The original is very cool and creepy and Frank Sinatra isn't half bad. I would suggest seeing it before you invest in the new version.t

What? The horse head is the Godfather.

Indeed it is, because "Vince Fontaine" is having Don Vito blackmail a big studio exec to give him a part in the film.

The real-life "inspiration" for Vince Fontaine is, of course, Frank Sinatra and the film in question is Manchurian Candadate. So while I doubt that CF is a literal translation of what actually happened, you can bet that someone got fucked up to ensure Sinatra got that role.

Okay, I get it. I didn't think you'd make that simple of a mistake. I'm a little slow, you know.

Unlikely...that is unless I'm possessed by the demon weed. ;-)

How are you feeling?

[identity profile] pleasing-tint.livejournal.com 2005-01-07 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel fine. Obviously, I'd rather be strolling around in the snow...never thought I'd envy those people with shovels so much...but I can handle a month with the leg up. I have books, records and movies and friends so it won't be too tough. Also, I have some money saved so I won't starve with the forced time off. No buying costly posters though...I need to slow down anyway. So, all is as good as could be, I guess. I could have fallen and injured myself much worse...so I got away fairly lucky.

Alright then!

The original is fantastic! You must see it.

I will...but not until I'm thru admiring and giggling at your icon.

Hee hee. I can't take credit, but I'm glad you like it.

I LOVE the Laramie Project. Maybe it's because I'm a part of the gay community, but it really "spoke" to me. Great viewing choice. As for Liev Schrieber, he was great in the Scream movies. Haven't seen him in anything else.

If you ever get near it, Schrieber was WONDERFUL as Orson Wells in RKO281, which is the Citizen Kane historical drama made by HBO. Great Stuff.

I enjoyed how it ended up not being exactly the movie I expected it to be. The end of the movie seems to have a different message than the middle.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2005-01-06 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
I agree.

I have the original in my collection. It was FAR more of a thriller than the remake.

I'd love to see it.
