Happy "Get a new calendar if you have not already" Day!

I think I will use this opportunity to tell you all how silly it is that the "New year" starts in the middle of winter. I mean, aside from new calendars, does it really feel like anything is newer or fresher than it did before Christmas? Unlikely. So here is your New Year's Day related information from Wikipedia. While many pagans celebrate Samhain (SOW-en) as the new year, I go with the faction that celebrates in springtime when everything is New and growing after a long wintery sleep. I could do with a long, wintery sleep myself, come to think of it.

My holiday party was fabbo and I even got a credit card as a gift. Just what I need *laugh and wink*! It's one of those prepaid dealies since everyone knows I have no will power. Lots of swell people came to my party, too many to list them all in fact. Of particular interest were the new gal pal of [livejournal.com profile] pak_man78, and the cute little number brought by [livejournal.com profile] lickingtoad. George and Sonya attended which is cool because I never see them anymore...but even more amazing is the fact that they brought Jose AKA [livejournal.com profile] doswebos2. My buddies Tony and Steve showed up whom I also haven't seen in forever. Plus Schmave was still in town, K and N, [livejournal.com profile] klynnfrost attended even though her beau had to work. Kwame showed up, [livejournal.com profile] madush69 came by late, and [livejournal.com profile] mguto75 brought some yummy brownies. Sadly, [livejournal.com profile] uterdic couldn't not stick around to celebrate our last NYE as roomates as he and [livejournal.com profile] smarbaby had to go to another gathering in another city. Happily, they took the dog.

I'm finishing up my NaNoWriYear sign up today so I can get writing by tomorrow night. I'm going ahead with my plan to add 80-100 pages to my novella, taking it up to something nearing "full length". Then I can make up a prospectus and start shopping around for an publisher. Once I get an offer (if indeed, I do) then I can take that offer and use to to secure an agent. They will get 10%. I've always wanted to have an agent who gets 10%.

Well, looks like you're in good company. Thanks, I hadn't looked at all those different celebrations in one entry before.

Wikipedia is such a great place to go for basic yet thorough information on things.

No...I just thought you might have seen who it was, since you had a beter vantage point than I. Plus, I was a tad wasted :-P

I totally wish I could have attended. And if I hadn't just been there twice in two months, and it wasn't a thousand mile round trip, I would have. :-) Thanks for inviting me. It was the only New Years party I WAS invited to, and that alone made me feel special. :-)

We would have been delighted to have you. What did you end up doing?

Nothing I can admit to while maintaining my cool male exterior. ;-)

*snerk*

there's no shame in giving yourself a pedicure on NYE...I'm assuming that's what you meant, and nothing will convince me otherwise.

I really think that New Years being near the equinox is totally appropriate. Besides since we hold dominion over nature, we can designate new year any time we like. And nature better like it or else! *Shakes fist at nature* New Year is totally arbitrary anyway. The only important thing is that it's celebrated at the same time every year. Of course that doesn't count for Arabs and Chinese because they don't celebrate new year at the same time as us.

*wipes away tear of laughter*

Funny thing is, even pagans can't agree, some go with Spring Equinox, some Samhain...and even then it depends on what side of the world you're on.
