Think women have equality under the law?

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ladyteal for hipping me to these stories:

Pregnant woman not allowed to divorce improsoned abuser!!!

and

Bartender fired for not wearing make-up at work!

That last story actually reminds me of the stink a few years ago about stewardesses being required to wear panty hose. Has anyone ever exposed thier hose to heat or flame? They melt and adhere to the legs in a most painful and hideous way. Luckily, men are permitted to wear cotton slacks treated with flame redardants. Too bad the only value of women lies in shapely legs...

When I was a kid, I was taught that the United States was the worlds leader in human rights and that someday the whole rest of the world would be as progressive and liberal as we. Later, I thought voting for Clinton would make everyone's lives better. Now everytime I turn around, somebody is getting screwed in some horible way, and nobody gives a rats ass. People are freaking out because an old man on TV died, but no one is sending even $5 for Tsunami releif...not to mention supporting the current US regime. I'm so cynical now, and I am damn angry about the way the world is turning out.

I can't tell if it's more disgusting that things like this take place, or that there is not rioting in the streets when people find out about them. The more news I read, the more angry I become at people who really think denying people's rights is not just a good idea, but good for the counry at large.

Alright...here's one slice of good news for intense nerds.

And lastly, could we please, PLEASE try to keep our drinking under control this New Years Eve.
Anyone whose seen my carpet knows I'm not into cleaning up anyone's vomit.
And it seems like every party one person has to drink too much too early and "ruin it" for at least one other person.
So now, when you all have some time to think about it, let's all plan not to drink so much.

I can deal with Jerry Orbach kicking the bucket.. I can't emotionally deal with the Tsunami. I donated some money.. and put it out of my head. It's not even something I can watch on the news.. It just makes me feel too sad.

If it helps you put it in perspective there are 6 billion people on the planet. So 120,000 dead is a decrease of 0.002%.

It's not even the numbers.. It's the kids.. the suffering.. ick.
I mean.. I walk out of the room when people start talking about it. Morbid fascinations .. "Did you see on the news .. the babies.." stuff like that. I don't wanna hear it.

People have a morbid fascination with these things. I saw a video on the news, it showed a guy getting swept out to sea. I turned to my dad and said "Jesus!! We just watched that guy die!!" And then we changed the chanel.

I thought of a solution for the stewardesses. They should wear silk stockings. They shouldn't have any problems with those melting. Of course the airline should pay for them. It's funny, when you go somewhere where the women are supposed to be wearing skirts and nylons there invariably is one who is heavier than the rest and thinks that stockings and a skirt don't look good on her and she wears slacks. But on my trip to RI the heavy stewardess was wearing shorts and nylons. That sucks.

Wow...I've never heard of a heavy stewardess. Usually dieting is part of thier contract.

[identity profile] nate101000.livejournal.com 2004-12-31 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Well she wasn't very heavy. Just heavier than a regular stwardess. She was probably 160-180.

For that bartender, she should have said that initially, make-up was not part of her dress-code. It is an added expence that the casino has forced upon her. She should have fought (at the least) to make it so that the casino has to buy the make-up. After all, even though I don't wear it, I know that make-up is damn expensive, and being forced to regularly dish out that much money must be illegal. It sounds like blackmail..."Pay for make-up, or loose your job!"

At will employment baby.

I wish there was something I could do for the tsunami victims. I am just sick over the images I see, and the idea of that much loss and devistation. N tries to be logical with his "It's only oo.2% of the whole world's population", but he doesn't see the human factor. I couldn't imagine loosing my family, friends, home, and all of my belongings in one fell blow. It would be too much to bear. My heart breaks for those people.
