Wasn't Yule a pretty bloody and barbaric practice?

Some people, the Norse for example, did and do employ animal sacrifice at Yule. Beyond that, it is mainly a time for celebration: dancing, feasting, and all that there.

I do not find animal sacrifice to be any more "bloody" or "barbaric" than eating meat or wearing leather. In fact, it is much more natural to kill the animal yourself if you are going to eat it, and I reccommend that all carnivores do this at least once in thier life.
