Lost

There's this show on ABC called Lost, which i had never seen because it comes on at the same time as Smallville. Last night they showed the pilot, which was 2 hours long. I must tell you that I was damn impressed. With the sucky writing on Smallville this season, it appears that I have yet another tough descision to make (at least until I can afford Tivo). I will spare you the spoilery details and say that if you watch Lost, you will see an excellent ensemble cast, clever writing and solid direction. You'll also vaguely recognize about 2/3's of the cast from other things even though Terry O"Quinn was the only person I knew by name. So if you get near this program, do check it out. So far, it gets my reccomends.

I coudln't help notice though that ABC has jumpd on the 70's key party bandwagon with a wife swapping show of thier very own. Why do they make shows with such horrible and offensive concepts? Because people watch them, I mean, that's the obvious answer. They are cheap to make because they use regular people who don't have agents and will work for nearly nothing just to be on TV. It's exploitive and juvenile, and not remotely funny: "Oh look, the carnivore doesn't want to eat tofu--hilarious". But what I find even more offensive is that these shows are hip and popular at exactly the same time in history that people are going fucking apeshit about how homosexuals are destroying the sanctity of all marriage with their dirty, dirty desire for legal marriage. So, trading your wife to another family for ratings and money is just fine; but the marriage of two committed peoples of the same gender is a godless affront to decency?!?

Would anyone care to explain this to me?

I'm totally drawn into the wife swapping shows .. I'm bad ;) .. But I don't think gay marriage is wrong.. so I guess i'm ok ;)

Lost is fantastic (and occasionally stupid and/or frustrating, but almost always compelling at the same time). Terry O'Quinn didn't have a lot to do in the pilot, but he gets a hell of a lot more interesting after a couple more episodes. It's the only show since Buffy finished that I look forward to seeing what will happen next.

Certainly:

The Majority of people are bovine morons.

The TV networks pander to the lowest common denominator.

Using the Miracle of Two TiVos I am able to watch both Smallville and Lost. I am very glad at this point because, as you say, Smallville this season does not make me want to stick around. I can only hope that when "Fresh Smallville" returns it doesn't still stink.

Sadly, we live in a hypocritical society.

I hate being sucked into new shows, but Lost
has latched onto us like a leech.

Yeah, you folks in America Jr (Canada) are alright by me.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2004-12-16 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, so far, I only know that he has a secret.

I think I'm going to stick with it.

Actually, that answered a few other questions I had too!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2004-12-16 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I beleive "Fresh Smallville" will in fact, "Drop".

;-P

I can totally see that, it's all gripping and stuff. I already an really interested in some of the people. That asian couple is probably the most intriguing.

You make a good point as usual.

The problem is, there's too many people like my sister-in-law having babies, selling tupperware, and hating gay people.

tupperware

But...the freshness...

[identity profile] zenithberwyn.livejournal.com 2004-12-16 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Silly girl! Sex is for making BABIES! That's what God intended it for! Gay people can't make babies, therefore they must be having sex for PLEASURE ONLY. And EVERYBODY knows, THAT'S WRONG!

What I find even more mind boggling is this: Only 30% approve of Bush's social security plan, only 43% think the Iraq war is worth it. So...why the f*ck did 51% vote for him??? I asked a friend this and she replied, "Because of his strong family values." God, America sucks big time. The people here are going backwards! It's really sad. Oh well; I'm moving to Europe!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2004-12-17 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Ew. I hadn't thought of it that way, nor had I considered the ramant underpopulation we're expereincing presently on the planet. Thanks for clearing that up!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2004-12-17 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I'm still not convinced that 51% did vote for him.

But to be clear, America does not suck. Many americans also do not suck. The Bush regime, however, sucks.

The Bible says, "Be fruitful and multiply." Therefore, birth control is evil! You see?

[identity profile] anarchys-savior.livejournal.com 2004-12-17 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
The religious right that's in control of america at the moment sucks. And since they are america at the moment...america sucks.

'In a democracy the people get the government they deserve.'

'A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.'

America sucks right now. But that's the good thing about not being a monarchy, we have the chance to make it not suck in 4 years. We won't do it, but we could.

Do whatever Bible says. got it!
