PG ???

Since my life is so shitty and I'm feeling so crappy; I thought I'd stay up until all hours watching movies, "having pizza" and baking bread for the party. Oh, and [profile] nate101000, remember when I said not to worry about bringing a pie? On second thought, I'd love for you to do that if it's still possible. No biggie though if you can't. Damn, I'm already exhausted of feeling so depressed.

Staying up till all hours watching cable has made me ponder the whole issue of movie ratings. Gremlins, for example, is rated PG despite the fact that it is pretty damn scary. And the violence is not bloody, but terrible things happen to undeserving people. In fact, after Jaws I'd say it's the scariest PG rated movie I can think of offhand. Plus there are movies with really dirty jokes in them that are rated PG. like Airplane! That movie has naked boobies, blowjob jokes, and shit literally hitting the fan (hilarious, BTW).

I remembered that there was not always a PG 13 rating; and that it had something to do with Indianna Jones. I looked up the ratings on Wikipedia, and this is what I found. I thought this was good information to have, although it bothers me that these ratings are enforced arbitrarily, and that many PG 13 movies are in no way suitable for children.

Then again, maybe I'm getting old and stodgy...but I enjoyed this lesson in the history of ratings. Plus so many films I own are mentioned. Wheeeee!

Anyway, catch you on the flip side, dude-meisters!

Is that Johnny Socko's flying robot?

I was trying to tell someone about that, and they'd never heard of it. Now I forget who it was...

Yes it is. I have a post with a bunch of pics of him a few posts back.

On the other hand, a number of R-rated films should be seen by teenagers. Mississippi Burning and Bowling for Columbine come to mind.

That's true too. And then like, the Matrix movies are rated R and not nearly as dirty as something like Scary Movie 3, which was PG 13.

I saw a great many anti-R movie people bringing very young kids to see Passion of the Christ, which is probably the most violent movie I've ever seen outside the Faces of Death series.

Spielberg is pretty much responsible for the PG-13 rating. They started PG-13 because of the number of complaints about "Gremlins" and "Indiana Jones: Temple of Doom." Most people agreed that they weren't "R" rated movies but that they weren't for all ages, either. Therefore, PG-13.

So like most things in life, we can blame the jews.

Airplane changed my life. That movie made me understand FUNNY. Well, the naked boobies didn't hurt either. ;-) I saw Jaws when I was pretty young. It gave me irrational nightmares, since sharks don't comb the carpets of my bedroom. I couldnt' seem to convince my dreams of that though. Ironically the movie that probably gave me the MOST nightmares was Star Trek: The Motion Picture. There is a scene where "Transporter Malfunction" leads to the violent death of a character and it freaked me out for months afterwards.

Yeah, that transporter malfuntion was the only interesting thing in that whole movie. I saw it with my family at the Abby. I'd never been so bored.

I remember the Abby.. Before it was turned into a Giant Computer Store. I saw Tron there, and Indian Jones, and Gremlins, and Dune, and the list goes on and on.

Yeah, I saw Batman thre, Natural Born Killers. In fact, the first time i snuck into an R rated mvoie it was there...Risky Business with an unknown Tom Cruise...

I saw Batman at the Showcase Cinemas on Greenfield. I remember that theater was HUGE, but there was a riot there after New Jack City or something I think and they cut the largest theater into two. I remember I also saw Poltergiest there. The audience really got into the presentation, and I recall everyone hoping that JoBeth Williams top would come off when she was flying up the wall. It must have been second run by then though, because I was 12 when that movie came out the first time and my parents would NEVER have let me see that.
