Some stuff on my mind:

Hmmm, Ken Jennings lost (by missing FJ? I knew the answer to) without breaking the all time record on the last day of November sweeps. This is, of course, after demolishing the one day record on the last day of May sweeps before the big tourney. Somebody call Ralph Feinnes, for there is conspiracy afoot! All I know is between KenJen losing and the end of NaNoWriMo, my friends page is pared down by half all on it's own.

Hatful of Hallow
You are Hatful of Hollow, a compilation of BBC
sessions and singles, which includes two gems
which can't be found on any other album, Accept
Yourself, and Handsome Devil.

What Smiths album are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

On a completely unrelated topic, sometimes I think it's more depressing to have people on your side pulling for you when your life is going shitty. I'm enveloped in some kind of post birthday depression, since still not having a job is making me feel like a tremendous loser. The interviews are a huge waste of time and money, and I'm going to have to go to that stupid temp agency this week. I just feel so terribly depressed, and like I don't deserve all the good wishes people are pouring all over me. I just hope I can turn that depression into 80 more pages of novella.

And while I don't know of anyone on my friends list who is at all conflicted about gay marriage, here is something I blatantly snagged from [profile] raggedrose's wonderful journal, which deals with the whole issue of taking the Bible literally:

Dear President Bush,

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I
learned a great deal from you and understand why you would propose and
support a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage. As you
said, "in the eyes of God marriage is based between a man a woman." I
try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone
tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind
them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination... End
of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some
other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them.

1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and
female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend
of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can
you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in
Exodus 21:7 In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair
price for her?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her
period of menstrual uncleanness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do
I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a
pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbors.
They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus
35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated
to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an
abomination Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality.
I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination?
Oh, sorry. IS there degrees ..

7. Lev.21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have
a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does
my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here?

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair
around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by
Lev.19:27. How should they die?

9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes
me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two
different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments
made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also
tends to curse and blasphemes lot. Is it really necessary that we go to
all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them?
Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family
affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev.
20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy
considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help.

Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and
unchanging.

In Jesus name,
XXXXX

In more uplifting news, the 3rd season of Smallville is AWESOME on DVD. H and I are almost finished watching them. We're going to start disc 5 (which will be really heavy as it has both Virgil Swann and the conclusion of this business with Julian Luthor). Wheee!

I wish I could just do voiceover work all the time. Why can't I get paid to record books on tape for the blind or something?

I've read that letter before. Years ago.

[identity profile] uterdic.livejournal.com 2004-12-01 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
I hadn't seen the letter, but I keep a website on my favorites page with all of Leviticus' laws, for just the same type of occasion.

Yeah, when it was addressed to "Dr." Laura.

I know it's hard not to feel depressed or discouraged, but you DO deserve all the well wishes that people send your way...I don't consider you a loser at all...

I hope the temp agency will at least give you something to get you by for a while...and who knows, maybe it will lead to something interesting and permanent?...

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2004-12-01 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
I hope so too. And thanks!

I had heard that Ken was going to lose awhile back. I watched the last few shows and he just seemed to be not really into it. He was looking all over or blankly up. Maybe he knew he was going to lose during sweeps so his heart was no longer in it.

I've seen that before. It was hysterical the first time I saw it. But then it was addressed to some Dr. Laura. [livejournal.com profile] maydayflower made a whole post where she answered those questions. It was funneh.

Come work at the Dillard House with me!

I applied for a few jobs today, some of which would not be too terrible.

I looked into that books for the blind thing, and they want ya to fucking volunteer. Fuck that shit, I want some bank for these bas-ass pipes, Y'know what I'm sayin'?

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2004-12-02 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Really?

How do you volunteer? I'd love to do that.

[identity profile] madush69.livejournal.com 2004-12-01 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh, bad ass pipes...(bas ass types)

Dear me, not only are you a Larry fan, but you also like the Smiths, Smallville (I have a terribly intense crush on Lionel Luthor, I must admit), and (I'm gathering), gay marriage! How exciting.

And I write.
