I weep.

Christopher Reeve 1952-2004 Christopher Reeve 1952-2004

This is the worst way ever to begin a new week. I'm spending the day watching Superman movies and Deathtrap. I love Deathtrap! If you haven't done it lately, do take some time and enjoy one of the many gifts Christopher Reeve has given cinema. I don't mean to get all sappy, but I literally burst out crying at getting this news a few minutes ago. Obviously, being a new fan of Smallville put him on the forefront of my mind, but he has amazed me in life as he refused to stop working despite being paralyzed. Goddammit, it is a horrible thing that he should not be with us anymore. We are all the poorer for having lost him.

Oh no!
Superman is dead?!
Who will save us from all the evil villans?
Woe is me....

I must confess that I did not share his political preferences

Interesting, I don't think I even know where he stood politically.

He even helped with Bush's election campaign

That's interesting because I thought he was big into the stem cell research.

The chap was no mastermind and probably did not see the connection

Well...nobody's perfect.

[identity profile] haroeris-astrum.livejournal.com 2004-10-12 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I have a bit of block with people like that

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2004-10-12 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I do my fair share of railing agaisnt Bush supporters. At the same time though, reasonably people can disagree on specifics, and I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt...maybe I'm too sentimental.

I understand that but he did go out of his way to spread the campaign of ignorance - I am particularly not tolerant of those who patronised those who tried to get by when despite his disabilities wants to play that way

I'm not sure I know the specifics of what you refer to. Source?

Unsure about current online resources - There should be several - However, I'm old enough to work from memory.

I saw Deathtrap for the first time a few months ago. That's on my get-on-DVD list.

I saw it in the theatre with my parents when it came out in the 80's. Dyan Cannon is SO funny in it!

I really like him in Somewhere in Time. Granted, its lame Romance Movie pulp, but he brings so much life to the character. And of course, nobody will ever be a better Superman.

[identity profile] uterdic.livejournal.com 2004-10-11 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
No human can watch Somewhere in Time and not cry. It's as sad as they get. Plus, it's fun because it's all Mackinac etal.

No, they won't.

After this morning's radio reports, I've had the theme to Superman in my head constantly. Sing it with me:

This
song had no words;
Now
It
Does,
Cuz we wro-ote the words
to
SUP-erman!

I, too, love Deathtrap, even though I feel unsophisticated dramatically about that.

No shame in loving Deathtrap. Ira Levin, you know.
