Blockbuster

It is not secret to many of you that I used to work for Blockbuster. In fact, that's how I met my current roomate, [livejournal.com profile] uterdic and my great friend, [livejournal.com profile] lickingtoad . That said, Blockbuster is an evil company who doesn't give a rat's ass about their employees or the safety thereof. I quit working there after the district manager looked me straight in the face and denied making several of the horrible comments she made towards me.

Anyway...I have a strong dislike for Blockbuster, despite the fact that their low low prices on used DVD's bring me to them once every other month or so. Since I had a bit of money I went online to see if they were having one of those 2/$20 or 3/$25 sales I love so well. These sales coupled with the fact that they buy used DVD's from the public can make for some great opportunities indeed. People jonesing for new video games often sell great movies for cheap.

So...it turns out they are not having a sale.
It also seems that they have started a Netflix like service at the same damn price.
And that Viacom wants to dump them;
And they only made a profit once in the last five years...which is about the time I stopped working for them.

Blockbuster: I hate you.

And so does The Universe, it seems.

Okay then, welcome!

Most companies don't care about employees. A business organisation does not exist for the benefit of its employees. Business sounds dirty.

Sure, but I have worked for companies, or perhaps just under certain individuals who knwo that it is cost effective to treat employees well. Low staff turnover means more committed and knowlegible staff with less training and hiring costs. Plus customers like to come in and see the same people every time.

Shame the principle is not applied to call-centres. Do you realise that I have trouble finding somewhere to order food because the person on the phone speaks almost no English? That is what I understand by customer service.

Strangely enough, I am affiliated with blockbuster and I hate them too.

I work for St. Joes Hospital which is owned by Trinity Health. Trinity Health is owned by Viacom. Viacom either owns or is owned by Blockbuster, either way I am affiliated and I hate them by association w/ Trinity Health. They are even tacky enough to send Blockbuster coupons/ads in my 403b statement.

Yikes!

Indeed, there are plenty of reasons to dislike Viacom.

I use to work for Hollywood Video, and even though im sure Blockbuster was way worse, the climate was pretty much the same and it resulted in me quitting on several occasions.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2004-09-19 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah...I actually worked for Hollywood first. I thought they were okay as a company, but the people I had to work with and deal with were pretty awful. Tons of petty squabbling and bullshit.

hahaha yeah, i loathed the customers. there is more to life than complaining about your late fees.

How the world turns! I am always amused by the six degrees of the internet.

(You see, I came to your journal by way of [livejournal.com profile] sudrin. And then here I see that you used to work with [livejournal.com profile] lickingtoad, who I was fortunate to 'meet' online when he was a wee high schooler. Craziness!)

My God, Disney was right all along...

it *is* a Small World.

Let's hope that's the last thing Disney is right about.

Awwh, thanks. :)
