The Village

Here's the thing...it was AWESOME!!!

First of all, despite the reviews i couldn't possibly NOT see this film. There were so many people in it that I love: Joaquin Phoenix, Adrien Brody (swoon), Brendan Gleeson, Michael Pitt, Sigourney Weaver and the list goes on...

I admit that unlike any other Night film, I saw parts of the ending coming. And I think the reason people aren't loving this film like they should is that it utterly defies genre. Horror fans who wanted horror are saying "damn, this is a love story" but fans of love stories wouldn't get anywhere near this film. But I'm telling you it is scary, suspenseful and had excellent performances by everyone. Including the lead chick who I've never seen in anything else. She was awesome. And as usual, Adrien Brody can do absolutely anything on screen.

It was also a lot like the screenplay I am currently working on.
That's the second time that has happened to me, and it's really a bite in the ass.
(after working on my last zombie novel for 3 years and not finishing it, another zombie novel with the SAME TITLE was released in 1999)
you see, in the mid 1990's nobody was talking zombie, and now everyone is. No, there aren't zombies in The Village, but the similarities are clear nevertheless.

I had fun seeing this movie with many prominent LJers and H. But as per usual, there was some idiot behind me making stupid comments the whole time.

For some reason, Mlive does not have the new joblistings up for today.
What kind of assholes do they have working over there anyway?

Now I'm off to watch the new ep of Dead Zone.

I really loved The Village, too...we are the few. =) I liked it despite the fact that I figured out the entire premise literally five minutes into it, probably because it's extremely similar to one of my favorite books, Running Out of Time.

That's the thing isn't it. This is not a unique story. Night just tells it in a very good way with excellent performances.

that lead chick

i saw the village last night. i thought it was fantastic! lovely and scary at the same time.

and the reason you don't recognize the lead chick from film is that it's her first film (pretty good for her first time, huh?), but you may recognize her as the daughter of ron howard.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense as I am told she was an extra in Parenthood. It seesm that only smart people are liking the Village.

Also, thanks for getting me into Found magazine (and the book)!
