For myriad reasons, H and I are wanting to switch to cell phones. Having done a bit of research, I am more perplexed than when I started. It seems like the plans that give you free phones, give out crappy phones that no one likes. There seem to be catches involving rebates, returns, and warantees.

We want one plan with 2 phones, a bunch of minutes we can use to make 20% or so long distance calls. Almost all of our calls are nights and weekends. We must have clear sound, or I'll end up throwing it from a bus window.

Also, we hate, hate, hate Ameritech. Who should we use? Which phones are good, which providers suck? All the info sites seem to be run by one provider or another, we really need an unbiased opinion.

I have Verizon wireless. I got my phone for free (after $50 MAIL IN REBATE) and had 1800 minutes a month for $29.95 (300 regular time, the rest, nights and weekends). I did have to sign a 2 year contract though, but that's ok as I know that I'll have the same number for 2 years. I like my phone, though the battery isn't what it used to be, that happens to everyone, though. One nice thing about digital phones is that so long as you have a signal, you almost never have static (at least for me). Cingular is supposed to be pretty good too, but I don't know much about their plans. Finally, i've used the Nextel phones too. They're the ones with the 2-way radio in them. I like that feature, though the chirping gets really annoying, and I think they're a bit more expensive. But for communication between you and H, it may be a good thing as you can use the 2 way radio for free. It should reach all the way to his work from your place, as when I used one in DC it was about 12 miles between me and my HQ, and the only place it didn't work was in elevators.

I think my hatred for SBC Ameritech will soon overcome my distate for cell phones.

Teh zombie story is going slow, since I have been working so much, and doiong so much prep for halloween. Hopefully afte the rush of holidays, i can work on it more seriously. Or maybe, I can start taking it to work with me, so I can edit there.

We have long breaks in between shows.
