On and On it goes...

Many thanks to everyone who has commented, text messaged, and phoned with words of sympathy and encouragement. You guys all rule the roost!

Plus, it seems that i am a quotable local: http://arborupdate.com/

If HHB figures out it was me, he'll realize he was no longer my favorite boss.
I don't know how to feel...

Tomorrow I'm going shopping for suitable interveiw shoes, and will have to eventually go to sceretary of state to update my liscense. I sent the form in in November, when my birthday was and it never arrived in the mail. I didn't think of it, since I don't drive but now I guess I need a valid freakin ID for chrissake!

I have to go in Friday to get my cheque and the stuff out of my desk. I imagine i'll pass out some resumes at the mall to EB, Lane Bryant, Waldenbooks or where ever else they might need someone with my extraordinary skill.

David Cross on Daily Show, gotta go!

Try to come by Saturday night for Kassy's welcome home. I imagine it will be earlier than usual. I'll be calling everyone.

Gah! I just read about all this! I'm sure that you'll find something very soon. I'm also sure that you've made some sort of connections through your many theatre patrons which may help you on your search for new work.
Many hugs!!
xoxo

I didn't get to say how bad I felt about that happening to you and the other Madstone employees. The higher-ups couldn't have been shocked about this; at least not as shocked as you guys were. You'd think that they would have been able to give you a heads up in some way? I mean, someone had to know at least a little in advance, someone should have said "Hey, we're in trouble with (money or whatever) and we want you to be able to have a back up of some sort..." at least my last manager (when I got canned that one day) gave me three weeks severence pay and a good recomendation. I just feel... like someone should have said something, given all of you time and oppurtunity to find work elseware. That's not even considering the breakup of what is in a way, a family of employees (whether or not you like eachother all that much), a common bond of working together and... er. Fuck.

I'm sorry

Co-workers and I were just talking about how common this "no warning" practice has become. There were many stories of other workplace closings that involved the same sudden shut-down. Even if, as the article in the Ann Arbor News says, local management knew nothing in advance, SOMEbody did, as you say. It's a shameful thing when businesspeople make it okay to treat human beings this way.

[identity profile] shakeshookshock.livejournal.com 2004-06-02 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
All the theater managers knew was that there were problems and that there was a chance that end of summer could be when they closed us. I was there when Boss #1 and everyone else found out. It was crazy.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2004-06-02 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It's also very insulting, because the premise seems to be "since we're screwing you over so badly, we dont' want to tell you beforehand so you have time to steal office supplies or say bad things about us or perhaps warn people not to give up $45 for membership.

I personally guaranteed people we'd be in business for the duration of thier membership. So now I've lied to a bunch of prominent Ann Arbor types, and I need to find a job.

[identity profile] fflo.livejournal.com 2004-06-02 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
You make a good point about that aspect of the lousy treatment.

As far as the guarantees, I can't imagine anybody would hold it against you. You didn't lie; you really didn't know.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2004-06-02 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Well sure, but many people won't see it that way. I'm just saying it's not a great position to be in.

[identity profile] fflo.livejournal.com 2004-06-02 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Have to agree with you there.

I'll keep my ears open about area jobs, for what it's worth.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2004-06-02 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. Every bit helps.

OMG!!

..Haven't been on lj today, until just now....I am SO sorry to hear about this!!

I hope you find something-*that you'll LIKE doing and get paid well for*-quickly!

**did you see the ad on cartoon network's Adult Swim last night, they are looking for for someone in their, (I think it was), marketing devision** ;}

Yea!

[identity profile] sarahscherry.livejournal.com 2004-06-02 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
and you do have extraordinary skill... if you know what I mean!!! :)

Re: Yea!

Sarah, you can't beleive everything you read in the mens room (in Erics handwriting I hope).

Speaking of Eric, if you see him beofre me, can you make sure he knows that we're getting together Saturday at my place anytime after 8pm.

[identity profile] mariemontclair.livejournal.com 2004-06-02 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure the higher ups knew the company is in danger. I'm not sure they knew that their theaters were going to close. That's the truth :(

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2004-06-02 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
They told us last weekend not to sell any memberships. They certainly knew something was up.

[identity profile] mariemontclair.livejournal.com 2004-06-02 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah us too. Ugh.

I figure they just wanted to be safe with the memberships. I don't think they knew that they would be closed like that...in such a crappy way :(

I don't know, maybe I'm too naive.
