i need to get some opinions of Gameboy Advance and the one that comes after that. My Gameboy color has seen better days. so i'm thinking of investing in a new game thingy. i want to be able to play the games i have now, and I need for it to be rechargeble because i refuse to buy batteries all the time. backlit would be nice if that is availible, and i would also like to option of a joystick. i also don't want to spend more than say, $100.

What should i get?

The new gameboy is backlit and mario 3 is available. Those 2 reasons alone make me consider it.

Hey Wednes,
The Standard Gameboy Advance is not backlit and needs batteries all the freakin' time.

The Gameboy Advance SP is backlit, rechargable, compact, and truly a delight for adults and children alike.

All GAMEBOY systems are retro compatible, meaning even the very latest units play the cartridges going back to the first monochromatic games. They even add colors to those games.
The Advance specific cartridges are about half the size of the cartridges you're familiar with, and will not work in the older units, but all older cartridges WILL work in the new units.
Both of the new units have an additional two buttons on the top of the unit, allowing additional control for newer games. On classic games those buttons can be used to toggle between classic or Advance style screen size.
The GBA-SP is available in Platinum (Silver), Cobalt (Blue), Flame (Red), and Onyx (black). I have silver, Joey has blue.

I'd go with the new version of the advance. You can recharge it, it has a back light, and it will handle any/all game boy programs available today. I am not sure about the joystick idea though. You could check out the local gamestop store or check the site (http://www.gamestop.com) They have a lot of accessories and add ons so a joy stick might be possible, but I can't promise you anything. The only downside to the new advance is that is is about at slim/thin as the old gameboy pocket. So it might bother your hands if you have bad knuckles.

I love the GameBoy Advance SP

I'm an old fart and will vouch for the comfort of the SP. Yeah the non-lit, non-rechargable Advance is wider, but it hasn't hurt my wrists or knuckles to use the SP.

I'm not trying to trash the SP, it was designed to be better then the advance and it is in many ways. I was just marking a little warning about the SP, not that it bothers everyone, but I know some people, mostly older people whom I work with at the hospital, who have minor arthritis in their knuckles and they say the regular is better then the SP only in that way. Provided their eyes are still good enough to see the screen, you would be suprised how many old people play gameboy.

No I didn't think you were trying to trash it. We're cool.

Oh...I don't think I have bad knuckles, but I'd hate to buy the damn thing and then find out it gives me hand cramps...

thanks!

If you get one of these you can pretend you're a productive member of society. (Okay, it is more than $100, but it's a proper PDA.)

Can you get Tetris and Frogger for it?

[identity profile] skryche.livejournal.com 2003-12-02 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if you use Phoinix (a Gameboy (though not GBA) emulator) you can play most Gameboy games. So, yes.

I want one so bad.

Why would I want to pretend anything as boring as that, when i could pretend to be a cowboy or an astronaut?
