Packing

It is hard to pick up every single thing you own and put it into a box. I am learning that I have long defined myself more by the things I possess than on who I am and what I do. That is actually pretty sad.

I have a lot of cool stuff, but I suspect I'd be just as cool with less stuff. I could at least put less of my stuff on permanent display in a vain attempt to feel more cool. I'm a grown-up woman, who even cares if I'm cool...okay, I guess I do.

I'll be glad when I have less stuff though.

Also, why is Kill Bill being split into two movies if it's only 3 hours long? If Harry Potter fans can sit thru 3 hours, surely Tarrantino fans can do likewise!

I had the same thought.. Maybe they don't think people can mentally handle 3 hours of Tarantino :) 3 hours of "Mother fucker" and "Nigger" might get to people ;)

Moving Stuff.

When I moved in 2001, I packed everything away in boxes, and then lived with my parents for several months. All my stuff was in storage, except a couple of boxes of clothes and the bare essentials like toiletries and bedding. And I was really startled by how little I missed any of it. I mean, I knew it was safe and in storage, and not GONE, so it wasn't like I had to grieve, but I didn't really need it around either.

I'd always thought I liked stuff just because I liked stuff, not because I needed it around, and apparently that's true. I like my pictures and decorations, but they're not my definition of me, they're just how I choose to decorate my space.

Still, it was a huge pleasure to unpack all my books...*heh*

Odd what insights moving can give you...

Indeed.

Yeah, as much as I'm looking forward to this, I'm not sure I see the point of making what looks like a fun, wacky kung fu movie into some two-part juggernaut. Maybe it'll make sense, though. I'm so still there.

I'm adopting a wait and see attitude, unless it comes to the Madstone of course, then I'll just see it for free.

Yeah, but all that cool stuff is fun to look at!
Eveytime I move, I try to get rid of a lot of my stuff that I think I don't need. I hope you have more will power that I do.

: )

Not so far. Everything seems important in its own way...

I personally would rather sit through 3 hours of harry potter than 3 hours of tarrantino.

I love the way your place looks. I'd love to decorate my place in a fun way, but from what I hear our new place will be even more grown up that the last place. Thank God I can hang my spaceships from Joey's ceiling. I wanted some classic movie poster art...EG: Goldfinger or Casablanca, but she agreed only to my more traditional choices...Van Gogh, and a really pretty one by Blake (Not Red Dragon and woman clothed in the Sun...darn it.) Either way I am the primary decorator, she only has veto power. Her john and the kitchen will be mostly up to her with some veto power left to me on the kitchen. I am hoping for a nice rug and possibly a pretty bookshelf for the new place. I do plan on having some cool shit on the bookshelf.
