Call me Entertainment Weekly with my pointless lists:
Over at the
indiefilms community, people are listing thier favorite films and agreeing with eachother and stuff. Frankly, I suspect it would be much more fun to have this discussion with all of you's who read me regularly.
These lists will be somewhat frivolous, because I'm not trying to impress a anyone with my obscure knowlege or pretentious insights...Yet.
1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
2. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
3. Zoolander
4. Foul Play
5. Salem's Lot (long version)
6. Heavenly Creatures
7. Godfather Saga (I and II with extra footage)
8. Prince of Egypt (ooh, and I'm upgrading to widescreen DVD!)
9. Hannibal
10. Superman/Superman II
1. The Wiz
2. One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest
3. Requiem for a Dream
4. Kingdom of the Spiders
5. Boxing Helena
6. Falling Down
7. Spartacus
8. Head
9. I Married a Strange Person

hi Entertainment Weekly...!
Pretty sure I saw 'Kingdom of the Spiders' on TV as a youngster... tarantulas shipped to the U.S. in a crate or something... vaguely remember people trapped in a VW while spiders crawl all over it. Tarantulas seem to be the top film spiders, no matter what sort of spider they are supposed to be playing.
I'd like to see The Wiz again sometime. There were some weird creatures with stretchy arms or something in it that really freaked me out... some sort of subway monsters I think.
Actually your lists make me want to rent several of these movies, although I'd probably need to get a Netflix membership or something in order to do it.
It doesn't really seem like there is one obvious thing you like in movies... you have horror, comedies, fantasy action-adventure, drama. I was surprised to see Boxing Helena on your list, just since that has gotten such a bad rap. I saw it in the theater and kind of joined in the communal outcry that the ending was a cop out or rip off, but thinking about it now, it was probably something of a relief as well. Apparently Jennifer Lynch never made another film.
Re: hi Entertainment Weekly...!
Not YET...anyway.
Yes, I have fairly ecclectic tastes that are not limited by genre per se. Although I must confess that the horror/suspense/drama's are my faves. See my user info.
Glad the lists are a springboard for thought!

Re:
I think good or bad, its good to make people want to discuss your work, and feel passionately about it in some way.
That having been said, i am not a great fan of the ending.
Casting Art Garfunkel? Genius!
Re:
Muchly agreed. Arousing some sorta strong feelings or questions is a Very Good thing in all art, I think. :-)

What's with Zoolander on the list?
I mean, it was a STUPID MOVIE!
Re:
Yes, I realize that it is a "stupid movie", and it makes me laugh each and every time I watch.
So if that's stupid, then Stupid Me Up!

And you're not stupid...That movie was...to me...just...eh...It didn't work.
I will say Will Ferrell was damn funny in it though.
Re:
It's from the movie. I really do find it hilarious.
But we can surely agree to disagree.
So long as we CAN agree that Will Ferrell is a funny, funny man. "I feel like I'm taking CRAZY Pills!"
