Hug Da Police!

Despite the fact that I am a total stoner, I have no real issues with the police on the rare occasion that I have to deal with them. So when they used to call every 6 months or so, and offered me a sticker for a donation, I was happy to slip them $10 here and there. I'm not wealthy, but I feel okay doing that.

Tonight though, I got one of those calls that was really pushy and rude, and I ended up agreeing to send $15, even though I didn't want to and can't afford it.

I'm pretty pissed off about it. I'm annoyed that I let myself get bullied by a cop even though it was over the phone (I was pretty high). And I'm irritated that even though I am cool about contributing that they would still call at 9pm and railroad me while I'm trying to relax in my own home.

I think I will not send the money.
I need to figure out what to tell them when they called to check on it.

I, too, have seen that Kevin Nealon episode of "Weekend Update" 277 times on Comedy Central.

Still no luck with him, I take it.

I had an ex bilk me out of, not quite $1,000 but definately a few hundred more than i had to spare. I never got it back, but only because it was worth that much money never to have to see him or his red-neck family again.

Don't feel bad; with rare exception, the person you actually spoke with wasn't a cop, but a telemarketer, and only about 20% of the money collected from these means goes to the FOP or widow's fund or whatever it was they were collecting it for (the rest goes to overhead and paying the telemarketing company).

Just ignore it.

OK so maybe it was a telemarketer (although they're doing their job they should be embarrassed) they had no reason to be rude AND why the F**K were they calling at 9pm? How rude! I've let people bully me into paying for something that I wasn't interested in. I have a bad habit of donating to people though I don't have money either. It's my guilty-conscious-I-want-everyone-to-be-happy-and-feel-better complex.

They probably won't hound you for it but if they do, lie and tell them that you've decided to make that donation to another charity. I'd probably say the ACLU just to piss them off, but, that's just me.

They do hound people, as they have hounded me in the past when it took 1 week to send the money.

It is crazy with them...so I'm going to ask them to take me off their list. I don't drive so they can't put out an APB on my car or anything...

I made the mistake of donating to some police fund not to long ago. It just snowballed. I get calls from firefighters organizations and emergency workers and different police funds. The last that called was talking about country music and some song. I didn't feel like listening to him talk about county music so I set the phone on the counter. After a few minutes I hung up. It let him give his speel and let me not listen to it. Win/win situation.
