I'm surprised you've never read "Howl" by Allan Ginsberg (do; it's good, a 5-minute read, and available online), but I can't believe you've never read "To Kill a Mockingbird". If that is truly the case, please read it as soon as you have time! Any library will carry it. If I had to pick one book on that list that was most influential for me, it would be that one.
