Not my real job, just how I earn money.

Today's work day is going by sooooo slooooow I can hardly stand it. Once all the brass goes home for the day, I'm going to pull out my newest short story and work on it. Hell, I might actually try to draft something since I've got to be here for FIVE more hours. The terrible, shitty, slow, interface at my work is making me really hate this place. I'm quite indignant about the fact that this is a level of frustration and annoyance that I shouldn't have to tolerate.
Going to be scaling back my day-job hours in the hopes of picking up some freelance work. I feel like I'm too old to be doing something I don't love. I realize though, that a great many people end up doing work they don't enjoy, for years at a time, and they never really get to quit. Myself, it is unlikely that I will ever be able to buy a home as my credit has been bad since forever. As I will always have rent payments, it is unlikely that I'll ever be able to retire--on the off chance that I actually live that long, I mean. With that in mind, it's kind of important that I secure myself some work that I feel great about, seeing as how I'm going to be doing until I die. So freelancing is my new plan. We'll see how it goes.

Looks like the rest of summer is going to be lame in terms of book events. No interviews or signings until October. But that'll likely seem sooner than I think as August starts on Monday. Putting off the novel draft in favor of writing a bunch of short stories. I have some cool ideas and want to get them down while they still seem fresh and exciting. Truth be told, it's really hard to write a novel when I don't have a big hunk of writing time. I want to stay up and write all night, sleep for 9 hours, then get up and finish what I was writing. But since I have to keep a stupid, crappy job, I have to go to bed early when I'd rather stay up and write, then go to work when I'd rather stay home and sleep then write. Ah well...
