If you are already amending your eating habits, then you are on the right track. If you do have diabetes, they will probably get you into a class about nutrition and you can see what you are doing right and what you are doing wrong.
The exercise will definitely help. They will probably start you out slow, 30 minutes of walking 3 times a week or so until you can build up to 5 times, then every day. Then you go from there.

Diabetes sucks. If you don't have to be on the insulin shots right now, do whatever you can to make sure you don't have to ever be on them. I hate watching my dad have to take shots twice a day every day.

Then again, I'm also saying this while eating a Whopper (tm), onion rings, and an iced tea and candy bars (well, the candy bar was two days ago, but still).
