If it's so "vital" just give it to me!!!
I spent the better part of the afternoon trying to talk to a PERSON at the office of vital records. I've been trying off and on for years now to get an accurate copy of my birth certificate. It seems that since my Mom paid to have the record altered after my adoption at age 2, I as a 30-some year old woman am unable to get a legal record of who my father is.
Ain't that just a kick in the teeth?
Another concept has gotten under my skin lately: Reformed Types. I mean people who used to do one thing, but now do something else and look down on people for doing what they used to do. Some politician, I forget his name, lost a bunch of weight and is now insulting and ridiculous to all fat people. Because if he can change, anyone can? Yes. Because people are all exactly the same.
Admittedly, I'm sure I've been guilty of this. I've told people how easy it is to give up caffeine because I did. I roll my eyes when caffeine addicts complain that they can't sleep, feeling vaguely superior by virtue of my ability to drink water instead of soda. But I try to be mindful of it.
Or the odd person on my flist who go on and on about how everything they loved as a kid sucks now. As if liking things because of their sentimental value is somehow less genuine than for the actual artistry involved. I dont' take kindly to people denegrating the few bright spots of my childhood, even if they are solely related to the media. Maybe Electro Woman and Dyna Girl is not high drama, but it took me out of the hell that was my childhood and gave me someone to look up to. I also loved Scott Baio. Still do, in fact, I'm totally going to watch his new show when it premiers tomorrow. In fact, not only did I used to own this record,
but I used to smooch it.
And I am not ashamed.

FYI, he made an anti-pot movie in the 80's called Stoned. I declared shenanegans on it even back then. ;-]

He replaced Henry Winkler (history repeats!) as the Bluth Family Laywer on Arrested Development, and he's savagely brilliant. Love that show!
