Do people who work around airplanes...mechanics and stuff...do they have to get fingerprinted for their jobs? And if so, do those prints go into the same database that law enforcement uses?

Obviously, this is for the novel I'm working on, which is terrifying.

I've been printed for working in the schools, and was told my prints would go into the state law enforcement database. Doubtful they go into the FBI database, but I suppose it's possible. I wasn't working security, though...I would *assume* those go into the FBI database as well as the state one. (Short answer: yes, they go into a database.)

I can find an HR person for the Portland airport and ask if the mechanics and other personnel are fingerprinted. My guess before 9/11 would have been "no" (most criminal checks are done without prints) but post 9/11, I have no idea.

Well, as far as CSI is concerned everything goes to a database that can be easily accessed for law enforcement purposes. Nobody worries on THAT show, so I don't know how concered you should be in your story. ;)

Anyway, I need to assume my MC has NOT been printed and just wasn't sure how clever I'd have to be to make that happen.
