Ten M*therf*cking D*llars?!? Whammy.

As anticipated, Snakes on a Plane was painfully bad.

Surprisingly, it was not as hilarious or relentless as I expected. It dragged in several places and not a single character was cool enough or developed enough to care about. Even with abysmally low expectations, I excpeted more than this. A talented editor could have turned that script into something truly hysterical. But they didn't. They never did. So everyone was laughing at the badness. I suspect though, that this film will make a stupid amount of money.
I guessed wrong, on who would actually have to land the plane. Plus they groomed this one character to come back and be bad later, and then did nothing with it. And the "villian" was really hysterical, as was the scene that introduced him. In some ways, this movie represents all that is wrong with modern cinema; so in some ways it's bad that I gave them $9.50. But I laughed harder than I have all week. So that's cool.
Despite the title, there were very few actual Snakes on the M*therf*cking Plane. Though there were lots of CGI pictures of snakes.

And the song at the end? LO f*cking L.

Of course, I had a swell time with those crazy kids I like, [livejournal.com profile] uterdic and [livejournal.com profile] smarbaby. It was a good crowd with plenty of obnoxious kids yelling at the screen, cheering at the foolishness, and laughing in all the right places. Preview night is always a fun night to see a movie, even if the movie in question totally M*therf*cking Sucks.

That said, I've been forced to add a few things to the "On Notice" Board.

On Notice
On Notice

On second thought, Uwe Boll is "Dead to Me".

Did anybody see who else got cut tonight from Who Wants to be a Superhero?
I only saw Creature get cut, and then we had to leave to get good seats for SoaP.

Hey, have you ever read this:
DEVIL'S TEETH
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&EAN=9780805080117&itm=2

I saw it at Borders tonight and was giving it some serious thought, but stalled when it came to purchasing it.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-18 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
I borrowed it from the library but did not read it cover to cover. It has a good tone a casual narrative style, but the information is pretty basic. Almost everything I know about sharks I learned by watching TV, and I didn't come across any new or startling facts.

Maybe you'll want to pick it up used?

[identity profile] near-dark.livejournal.com 2006-08-18 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
My question is the same for the two other people I know who saw it.

Was it gory?

They both say it was but they both usually aren't into these type of movies...they both loved this though...I'm hoping this is gory as Hell.

[identity profile] maxverbosity.livejournal.com 2006-08-18 10:05 am (UTC)(link)
There was an article on MSNBC that wondered what was next...."Badgers On A Hovercraft"? "Wasps On A Space Station"?

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-18 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
No, it is not particularly gory. Mostly CGI effects so nothing stands out as being really impressive.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-18 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
See all this time, I thought it was an Alan Rickman movie. Imagine my surprise when I learned the actual title was NOT Snape's on a Plane.

;-/

But I'd guess Squirrels on a Ferry or maybe Komodo Dragons on a Bus. And some guy who's really good at DRIVER or GTA (but has never actually driven a car) will have to drive it--probably H.

Oh man, I was gonna see SoaP tonight...maybe I should reconsider, I dunno. :) Btw, Lemuria was the 2nd one to get the axe, I'm so glad it wasn't Major Victory (who was also on the chopping block)!!

[identity profile] gifgal.livejournal.com 2006-08-18 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
awww, how disappointing! i figured if anyone could give a fair review of it, you could....is it at least worth renting from blockbuster when it comes out??

im not sure if this is the song from the credits, but i do believe i have the theme song on mp3 for the movie if youd like me to upload it for ya.

[identity profile] kjtoo.livejournal.com 2006-08-18 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Interesting. We appear to disagree.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-18 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man...I can't stand that bitch. I'm so sorry I missed that!!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-18 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I would love the song, the one from the movie is hilarious.

I had an awesome time seeing the movie, and laughed my ass off. I'm sure you'll laugh too. It's a horrible movie, but it's mostly pretty fun.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-18 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL I've heard from several people how much they liked it. I imagine I'll end up owning it just because it's so damn funny.

I was expecting the most ridiculous film ever, and instead it was a bit better than garden variety foolishness IMHO. Of course, my own experience with snakes is quite different than yours. I've kept pet snakes and worked briefly as a reptile wrangler. I've been bitten by a yellow anaconda numerous times--and sadly, I didn't end up with any cool scars. ;-[

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-18 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
All set, man. Thanks!

[identity profile] near-dark.livejournal.com 2006-08-18 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, Hell, that sucks.

Maybe I'll just see the matinee showing, it's only like $4.

Boll needs to be executed for his transgressions against cinema...

I got excited about the Day of the Dead remake tonight. I feel dirty now

[identity profile] eroslane.livejournal.com 2006-08-18 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)

Hey, thanks! I think I'll just hit the lie-berry up for this one. Save $15 or so!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-19 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I had a great time seeing it, really.
I can't quite tell if it's trying to parody action movies or not.
I'll be glad to hear your thoughts.

[identity profile] kjtoo.livejournal.com 2006-08-19 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
On a completely unrelated note, The Pseudopod Horror Podcast might be of interest to you.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-19 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
??? *goes to imdb*

Whoa...I like the idea of Ving Rhames as Rhodes. It promises a marked contrast to his character in DotD '04.

But Steve Miner?!?
Okay, I only remember him from Friday the 13th pt 2.
So I guess I'll try to keep an open mind.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-19 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Wow!

Thanks. I had no idea that this existed, which is probably why I suck at self promotion. ;-]

[identity profile] kissdbyagnome.livejournal.com 2006-08-20 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
did you get to see the descent yet?

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-08-21 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
I did indeed.

I was quite impressed .
