I know you are, but what am I?

In addition to the myriad other things I accomplish in a day, I spent some time with my dear old friend [livejournal.com profile] kissdbyagnome for the first time in...geez over ten years. I have known her since I was 8 years old or so, and we also went to college together. Like those chicks in Beaches, we have endured many highs and lows, drama and issues, all that stuff life throws at you. Yet our meeting today felt totally normal and natural, just talking and laughing as if we do this all the time. Some people are just like that; you cut through the bullshit with them and just focus on what's really important.
I saw my first R rated movie in a theatre with her (you know, without my parents because they took us to see anything they were seeing), got drunk for the first time with her, discussed my first sexual encounter with her within 12 hours of it happening, and she was the first person who ever said to me "Dude, I think your mom is crazy." One time she gave me a flourescent green sweatshirt and matching paint splattered bandana. Which I wore, and loved, because it was 1986. LOL
It would be fair to say that we have both grown up a lot since the last time we hung out together (if I'm not mistaken, we went to see this movie. Funny thing about growing older and wiser...some people you grow out of or away from, and some people you grow right back into again. By growing into our truest selves, we appear to have reconnected in a way that lets us each value the other more than we ever had as children. It's pretty amazing when you think about it.

Moving on, here's this thing:

Respond to this post and I will give you the three words that I think MOST accurately describe you...even though the moment I click Post, I'll realize I should swap at least one or two out.

The cost? You have to return the favor by posting this in your own journal.

Some of you are terrible cheaters when it comes time to post in your own journal.

Response! (And 'gay, gay, gay' may be the obvious choice? It just feels like cheating. I'm just sayin'.)

Yeah, I haven't had a lot of luck with just picking up with people from back in my day, if you will. Indeed, half of them don't even seem to recognize me...

I won't intend to cheat, for what that's worth....:P

'Some of you are terrible cheaters when it comes time to post in your own journal.'

Yes I am. Yet I'd bet money that were I to post it in my lj I'd get at least one comment that I comment whoring. =p

Hey, I was thinking some of the same things! It was great seeing you, even better because now I really appreciate the fact that we've been friends for close to 30 years. And am so glad you were able to forgive me for being such a jerk 10 years ago!

So in addition to YOUR walk down memory lane, here's some of mine... You gave me a Donny and Marie doll for my 9th birthday. I still think about those dolls and think it was one of the best gifts i've ever gotten. We spent prom together...eating taco bell and smoking cloves haha. I still have that rosary you gave me when we were in Junior high. I also have a skull wand you gave me for one of my highschool birthdays that had crystals on each end (and some sort of red stone.) I think after you gave it to me you wished you had kept it for yourself...no? lol And camp (when we were pre-teens) is where we first coined the word WAD:)

Love ya WAD!

[identity profile] kissdbyagnome.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Also, yes we did see WOLF together. We also saw Dead Poets Society, YAAAAwwwwwn-Streeeeeeetch, lovely veiw of the country side...

[identity profile] kissdbyagnome.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Rr wait I mean Wen-Way. I think Wad came along at Olivet.

Commenting!

Sometimes I wonder what would happen if I got in touch- REALLY in touch- with some of the people I left behind when I moved to the east coast after 5th grade. Some of them I know I wouldn't want to, though, and that's somewhat disappointing.

OMG I forgot all about camp. That place was crazy. Not that they helped, but I actually can swim now. ;-}

Yeah, that wand was bad ass. My mom helped me pick it out on one of her "good days."

Right back atcha, man.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Mad LOL's.
That guy was insane.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Ah yes, WenWay.

Methinks Sheila Hartnet was instrumental in the creation of WAD.

The internet is great for getting back in touch with people. In fact, the internet is worth surfing through all that porn and stupidity to get in touch with one or two (and sometimes many many more) quality people.

Honest, Sharp, Proactive

Happily enough, I have come back in contact with several people from the past, and my life is the better for it. And I've caught up with a few people that were nightmarish and reminded me why I hadn't seen them in as long as I had. But I always feel better for having made the effort.

I'd like to see some pics of young You to conpare and contrast. You have a pretty distinctive look, I can't imagine not commiting your face to memory.

There was nothing in the language of the meme to suggests I'd be taking any follow up questions.
