The Island in the Asylum...and vice versa

I thought of this spoilery LOST thing last night when I was almost asleep but not quite.

There's been a lot of talk about Hurley and why he is on "the list." There's been almost as much talk about the "Dave" episode and the revelation that Libby was in the asylum with Hurley (as a patient, even though she said she was a psychologist) and the picture of The Island at the asylum. How can there be a picture of the island at the asylum? Is it all in Hugo's head?

Well...we have been told by the writers [livejournal.com profile] chaodai in particular, that The Island is not a figment of anyone's imagination. They are not in purgatory. So, the asylum people must be somehow involved in what's going on on the island. Remember too that The Numbers also came from a guy in the asylum...or should I say The Asylum.

Which might also explain why Hurley is on The List.
Everyone on the List has also hallucinated since coming to The Island:
Jack--father
Kate--horse
Sawyer--boar that wanted to kill him
Hurley--Dave

In fact, I think there are several Island connections we are missing. I think Walt's mother worked for Dharma before she died, probably of this mysterious illness that infected and killed everyone in Rousseau's group.
I think the illness used to be rampant on the island, but now it is contained. Everyone already on the island is safe, and only children and really old people need further innoculation from it. Desmond was probably wasting it, for example.

It might even be that the disease is going to spread all over the world and only the people involved in the Life Extension Initiative are going to live.

While I'm here, I'll also mention that Locke's father is probably the "real Sawyer" who ripped off John Ford's family and fucked him up for life.

Then again, it may be that all of our questions will be answered by Desmond, this very night.
Yeah, right.

The finale left me feeling.. unsure. I mean there are still alot of questions to answer, but I was almost sad that they hopped OFF the island for anything other than a flashback. Granted its not like there aren't still a lot of cool questions I just enjoyed the isolation of Desomond's Island.

I hear ya.

I'm actually getting a little worried because I wasn't as horrified as I was after last season's finale. I don't have as many pressing questions, and I barely give a rat's ass what happens to Michael and his screamy-pants son.

Ultimately, the episode answered more of my questions about the web site than the actual show.

Nice.
