Oh well HELL! I guess I need mac help.

For the last week or so, my Internet Safari has been working really, really slow. Now it won't stay open at all. It starts opening and then "unexpectedly quits". And I can't update anything because my computer is maxed out with upgrades. No new OSX and no new Safari.

Woe is I.

For I am bummed.

I'm also open to suggestions, though I don't imagine what I can do if I can't get the application to stay open. I tried to copy Safari and run that one. Nope. Then I attempted a bunch of upgrades to no avail. I ended up restarting a few times, also with bad results.

Advise me, wise ones.

Two suggestions (I've no idea if they are valid0. Try re-installing or going back to an older version.

I would clear the browser cache first, or if you can, download a program called Onyx and have it do that as well as repair permissions and perform a few other maintenance items. In your Utilities folder, there is also a Disk Utility - you might try to run the First Aid and see what happens too.

GO to applications->utilities->disk utility. The select the main hard drive and select "Verify disk permissions" this takes a while to run. When this is done select "Repair disk utilities" and I'd run that 1-3 times. When all is done, reboot and hopefully, you will notice better performance all around. You should do this every few months.

Good luck,

Have you tried Firefox? I often use that web browser on Mac.

I did where it says to verify disk permissions. Then I did repair disc permissions, because it wouldn't let me select anything else. I also cleared the cache. then I restarted and it did the same thing as before.

No, I haven't. I'm using older version of OSX and Safari. I'd really like to get Safari back because I have a zillion things bookmarked; lots of research and stuff. Plus Safari is the preferred browser for Yahoo mail so that's not running well either. Oh well...

Thanks man. Disk utility didn't seem to do any good for Safari, but I'm far from giving up, so we shall see.

Firefox is a great browser, but that's not solving her problem. Also, I've used both pretty extensively and prefer Safari. Just a few little things bother me about the interface. They are very picky things, but both applications are so good, I can only use little things to nitpick.

Well then uhhh... just do a clean restart of the machine?? I don't know I had this problem with photoshop a year or two ago and after it not opening (without crashing immediately) for about 1 month, it just started working again and hasn't been an issue since. I'm not saying I recommend this, or that your problem will just work itself out, but it's not unheard of.

I'll ask a few people around here.

Actually, I did the repair thing again, and got Safari to open, at which point I reset it. Now it will go almost everywhere but shuts down when I try to open yahoomail! It seems to go everywhere else. I don't understand, but suspect the problem to be a yahoo thing.

But--Safari is the preferred mac browser for yahoomail. It tells me that everytime i check my mail in explorer.

Thanks man, I appreciate the input. I seem to have it figured out, as it will open everything except my yahoomail.

Instead of making hommus, I am making you a special vegan version of my famous (ask around) mexican dip.
Everyone else will have regular mexican dip.

Plus I'm doing a vegan rice pudding which I think everyone will enjoy.

yeah, it's gonna be a blast.
I'm pleased as pie to be doing so splendidly at the ripe old age of 35!!
