Oh, My Effing Gee!!

[personal profile] roane posted a hilarious meme in which you google "(your name) needs" with the quotes and all, and then post the funny ones. I didn't get any hits with Wednes; however, my birth name Wednesday yeilded some damn amusing results. Some of these are fragments of a sentence or two, cut/pasted to form a slightly different though but left intact. Here's a sampling:

Wednesday needs to be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

Wednesday needs to hurry up already!

Wednesday, needs just one win to clinch the district title.

Wednesday, needs to show both friends and foes at home that he has the firm support of the United States

Wednesday needs his help, because she is cursed...

Wednesday, needs the support of at least 101 of the state's 200 lawmakers to get on the 2006 ballot.

Wednesday needs a makeover. Badly

Wednesday Needs a new bassist,

Wednesday Needs assessment and project planning

Wednesday needs to be turned into Mrs. Ryan by Tuesday at the end of the day.
Psst. No one tell Katie!!

Wednesday needs to be watched very carefully as the data will have important implications for the dollar and Sterling.

Wednesday needs someone to act as aid, driver, errand boy, and, in case of Wednesday's death, someone to hold a vigil
Yes, I do need this!

Wednesday, needs a new job immediately, not in April

and my favorite, from a LOST fansite:

Wednesday needs to come, like, NOW plz.

There were many more, but I think you get the jist here. Hilarious.

Now I must ask you all something about language. People sometimes use words to indicate displeasure with something and thereby maligning the thing in the word. For example, if I call someone a "fag" I am probably not saying I hate them because they are a homosexual; but it is still considered offensive by some to call someone a "fag"...even if you've been saying it since before you knew what a fag was.
The other day online, someone used the term "retarded" to define someone who argues online. Granted, this person was stupid, abrasive and lacked simple math and arguing skills. And yet, I was most offended by the (IMHO) archaic use of "retarded" to indicate a stupid person. So...

Hmm, It's hard, because I feel very differently about some of the words you grouped together... I'll give it a try though.

[identity profile] pyrafire.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I marked three of the options, but in reality, there are occasions where someone could use any of those terms and I wouldn't find if offensive. I think it's funny that I'm the only one who marked 'heathen' but that's mostly because my mother-in-law called me that when Dustin and I first started dating, and it pissed me off. But in general, it doesn't bug me.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I guess I can see that. I was trying to group them by connotative slang usage; but certainly "whore" and "cunt" are not the same word at all.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
She really called you a heathen? My mom used to call us kids that when we were little; which is funny because she didn't want us going to church.

[identity profile] pyrafire.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes. I'm the reason Dustin stopped going to chuch according to her. It was like two months after we started dating. She said it in the other room while I was at their house... keeping in mind that their whole house was approximately the size of your apartment. In other words, I could hear her and she knew I could hear her. It was just ridiculous.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, that's too bad. It's also very insulting that she thinks (or thought, at least) that her son was so weak willed.

I say stuff is gay and imply a negative connotation, but i don't set out to bash homosexuals when i say it. I view it along the lines of people saying something is "bad" when they mean it is good. Everyone knows one definition of gay means to be really cheerful or spirited, something which sounds really syrupy to me and is rendered lame of cheesy. So I use gay as a negative to imply something is retarded. Then of course I'll say all kinds of awful things, some of them are very offensive, I just choose who to say them around knowing full well who will take offense and who won't, there's a time and place for everything.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I must agree. I have a friend who takes issue every single time i say something is "gay". It has reached a point where i am offended that said person really thinks there is homophobia/hatred involved. At the same time, I don't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable; I just think my friends should know better.

I just think that one is a stupid term. *heh* It doesn't particularly offend me, I just think it's, well, retarded. *cough*lalala* *snicker*

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It is rather silly, but I've been saying it since elementary school. Although, I haven't called anything "bogue" in quite some time so I guess I could break myself of the habit if I try.
