Well, Hell !!

I daresay we are having some adjustment issues with JoJo. First off, he needs some major training to keep him from biting wires and jumping on the computer. Also, no one told me he has been giving people food on a regular basis. So he jumps on food and drink that is anywhere near him. He drank cranberry juice this morning. A cat drinking cranberry juice... I've never heard of such a thing.

He has almost used the litterbox once. It got all over the side, then he managed to track it all over the bathroom where I have to keep him whenever I'm out or sleeping. He is loud as hell all night long because he wants to go out. But he would not be remotely safe around here outside. Plus I guess one of my neighbors is really pissed about the loud cat meowing, not that I blame her. I taped an apology and explanation to her door this morning. She has a big, loud dog so I imagine she'll be cool with it. Anyway I have to stay up playing with him all night just so he'll be quiet for a little while.

Anyway, we're going to give him a few more days to chill out and learn to use the box. Other wise, Joey JoJo Junior Shabadoo is probably moving to a horseback riding farm.

I'm bummed. He's fucking adorable. And I really like him.
But if he keeps destroying my furniture and angering H, I won't like him forever.

i have a book which says "bad kitty" i'll look in it today for you to see what you can do okay? I dont want you to have to get rid of the cutie but i also dont want you to live in hell.

Thanks.

I've been up all night reading tips (amid playing with them and cleaning up cat mess) online. If you have anything that might work, I'd be glad to hear.

I'm especially wondering if I can give him herbs or something to chill him out at night.

Kitties love valerian. I've used it when I've needed to calm a kitty down. Worked for her.

good luck with the kitties!

I'll round up some books and stop by after work.

The cat has been fixed, right? I mean this all sounds like behaviors from a cat that hasn't been fixed. I'd have hated to see him beforehand.

I know it's tough right now, but I'd give at least 2 weeks unless things start getting destroyed. The adjustment for everyone will take time. I know you are in no hurry to get rid of him (yet) so I think you're on the right track with keeping him in the bathroom when you aren't there (keeping close to the litter box is a good thing), and don't be afraid to scold about getting up in the food and such. A good firm grab at the scruff of the neck and get right in his face and say "NO." That's what I call the "fear of God," it's not painful, it'll just subdue them. After a couple of times of them being freaked out by it, they begin to listen.

Oh man...I totally forgot. Clarence used to go crazy whenever I opened the valarian bottle. I had these pills with blue coating on them and if she got hold of one she'd lick it and the blue would get everywhere.

Thanks!

Thank you!!

I've been reading on the subject all night. I think we've been doing everything right so far. It just may take more time than we can allow. H it utterly humorless about having the new apartment covered in cat mess.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
He was fixed the day before he came here. I don't know, but I'd imagine it takes a little longer for boys to work all the testosterone out of their system.

I've been keeping up on the discipline, and that is going well. His relationship with Pentelope is also progressing well. So if we can work out this litter business, he'll be fine.

BTW, sorry I missed you guys last night. Did you get to see him? The siamese is pretty obvious.

[identity profile] nate101000.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds pretty typical for Siamese cats. Or at least what I know of them. They are extremely social, Bailey used to cry late at night even after we owned her for years. But Bailey had no problems using even a soiled litter box, I think that problem will get worked out pretty well.

Good luck!

You're probably right about the testerone working it's way out of his system.

No problem about last night. I still haven't gotten the message that you left last night. My guess is it'll be there when I get off of work. We did get to see him and he's adorable. I hope it all goes well.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I sure hope so, though I do have an alternate plan just in case. H will only do so much laundry w/out complaint.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure you'll be able to hear all about it either way.

Also, LOST/L&O this Weds?

[identity profile] uterdic.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
What's LOST? And all L&O episodes are the same.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL

That's true. I also heard the new Harry Potter is going to suck and that the Xmen 3 will be stupid.

Also, the Simpsons has not been funny for over 10 years.

Feliway is worth giving a try, it really helped when Aksu was all stressed out from the lion cut. Check out catinfo (http://www.vetinfo.com/catindex.html) if you haven't already, there's helpful hints on all sorts of stuff there. A behavioral therapist/ professional trainer would be what I'd try if everything else failed, I'm way stubborn.

[identity profile] absinthofheart.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
She SANG. She wasn't crying , she was SINGING to us. Like a moonlite serenade. That literally went on ALL night. Every night.

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, that's a goldmine of information.

Thanks!!

[identity profile] wednes.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm somewhat concerned about my quiet neighbor. The ones with those loud kids can kiss my ass though.
