Firstly, let me share with you some exciting movie news about Werner Herzog !!!
Now that we have THAT out of the way, I'd like to impose upong many of you local types. As you should all know by now, I'm doing volunteer work at the Washtenaw County homeless shelter. With the cold weather coming and holidays approaching, more people will be using the shelter, especially the warming area that is open to people who cannot get beds in the night shelter. The shelter seems to have a lot of things like sheets, blankets and towels, but not so much in the way of books. Shelter clients often inquire about the lack of good things to read, and would benefit greatly from an influx of books.
As such, I'll asking folks in the Ann Arbor area to go thru their stash of books and see if there are things you'd like to donate. Used books are great for general use at the shelter, but books that are like new can be used as gifts (for the MANY people who won't be getting holiday gifts from anywhere but the shelter) would be excellent! Donations of VHS movies are also good, provided the films in question are not inappropriate for people in recovery (no funny drug movies or anti-cop action movies, etc). And while I'm mentioning it, here's a link to the other stuff they always need at the Washtenaw County shelter
Do let me know if you have anything to donate. I imagine most of you out there have shelters in your area that could use an influx of books, movies, warm coats, pillows, and other stuff that's probably taking up room in your closets. There are also women's shelters who help women with children and can use your gently used kids clothes, women's business attire, and childresn books and toys. I've found that the best cure for depression can be to help people you've never met before.
