Dreamcatcher

Saw Dreamcatcher on HBO On Demand last night with H. I had no idea it was about Aliens as neither of us ever got around to reading thre book, despite my giving it to H last Christmas or maybe even 2 Christmasses ago. Anyway, there were some cool things in this movie, and some really stupid things. I suspect that the film has more than one director, or maybe that the director and editor did not agree.

The casting was good, and the flashback scenes with Duddits are appropriately upsetting and disturbing. There is some good gore, and some cool looking monster, courtesy of Crash McCreery who did the concept drawings for the Jurrassic Park dinosaurs. Good, good stuff there.

There were some interesting directorial choices, which I can't fully explain not having read the book. You could also see elements of Stephen King's writing, the way people use language or songs from the 50's and 60's to get their point across. I'd reccomend this film, while cautioning you to not expect too much. There is an influx of cheesiness and extreemely forced suspense at the end; and I can't imagine why Morgan Freeman would agree to do the role he did.

Speaking of Stephen King, I snagged a link from [livejournal.com profile] springheel_jack of a Quicktime movie of water boiling at zero gravity.

I'll be coloring my hair today, maybe making bread (I'm out of eggs and have to find an eggless bread recipe if there even is such a thing) and editing my script.
