In a few short moments I'll be going back to work. Just waiting for the cab. I've decided that if I expect absolute chaos and crazinesses of all kinds, I will probably not be too horrified by the things I see and hear tonight.

We have two sold out showings of PotC tonight, in a theatre that has not yet had a sold out showing. All Christian groups I presume...
HHB says it's cool if I talk honestly with the ones who are sure to question/comment on my religious beliefs...as long as the conversation is not initiated by me. I was worried I'd either have to be evasive or risk upsetting people. a lady i met after the Luther showing has already called to tell me she's been praying for me and can't wait to talk to me tonight. Plus, I've already had people ask me about my tattoos, and in some ways, I wish they were not so showy.

Anyway...

that dog apears to have suffered no lasting effects from The Wasabi Incident. My cats OTOH will not even go near raw tuna if there is wasabi nearby. I wonder where they could have learned that.

Speaking of animals, I've been doing a bit of research on the whole PetCo boycott. Any of you have an opinion on this? I have decided to boycott them, because the aligations I've read match what I have observed at my local PetCo...or should I say PetNO!
And it's thier loss, because I was a pretty loyal PetCo chick.

David Edelstein on Fresh Air completely downed PotC. He referred to it as 'a 2 hour long snuff film'. He also pointed out some historical inaccuracies. I'll see it anyway. And I'll probably like it. But I don't think his comments should be brushed off lightly.

it's pretty scary when someone thinks it's worth their time and energy to pray for you, as if your soul needs saving...I hope by being willing to talk to you, someone is willing to consider views other than their own and not just try to convert you to Christianity...

what are the allegations against PetCo?...my mom has been buying my cat's cat food there, because it's the only place that she can buy the specific brands of Fancy Feast that my cat will eat and do so in bulk...

Well remember the gospel of john was written by a Christian years later. It is hardly an unbiased historical account. Especially considering how many hands/revisions it went through before Gutenberg invented the printing press.

It's been getting an absolute caning here from everyone but the Catholic Archbishop, who loves it!

Some of the historical clangers are (apparently, because who really knows): that people spoke Greek (and no doubt a slangy, colloquaial Greek/Hebrew hybrid) to each other, rather than Aramaic; and that Jesus wouldn't have had long hair because that was considered 'Greek' and girly - real men, then as now, had short hair.

As for theology, Gibson is a fervent follower of a pre-Vatican II sect of Catholicism (Latin Mass et al), and the film is based around the visions of a 19th-century French nun as much as it is the New Testament.

But, hey, they've been arguing about this for at least 2000 years, so one little movie isn't going to make much difference ;)

There nationwide policy is to not user or employ vets for thier animals. Small birds and mammals are routinely kept in small, filthy cages and are killed using inhumane methods (putting warm blooded animals in the freezer for example).

Well sure, but my point is that you would have had to been a witness in order to say that is it not accurate. Otherwise, it seems logical to accept the bibles version of events.

I think I prefer Last Temptation of Christ in terms of just genral movie watching. Truth be told, I'd rather watch Moses than Jesus anyday of the week.

My experience has shown the petco keeps animals in filth. And the people working there know little if anything about animal care or much else related to the animals. I know there is more I am forgetting.

Yes!

I was looking at the snakes at my local PetCo and happened to comment that I wished I had room for one of the red tail boas. An employee from that department said "go ahead, they dont' get bigger than 4 feet or so".

Red Tail boas routinely get to be 12 feet or more. I complained to the manager who said he would "take care of it".

It really has to depend on circumstances.

If I am sick and someone is praying for my recovery, than that is very nice.
If someone hears that I am pagan and tells me they are praying for my soul, as if they have a key to heaven for me...and I am condemned without them, that is a bit different.

If they say something like hey have a key to heaven for me...and I am condemned without them than I would be scared. I did not understand the fear of just prayer. Sometimes it takes while for me to get things.

By take care of it they mean that after you leave it will be forgotten. I have brought things like this and things like cages needing water to peoples' attention and they give me the same line. It pisses me off something fierce.

I have been tempted to clean out the ferret cages and make them more liviable as a service to the fuzzys. Filling the reptiles water bowl seems easy enough. I know adoption for pitty is not a proper way to get pets. I had to stop going there.

I realize that was not phrased wholly accurately...I was largely referring specifically to Wednes' experience of having someone who attended the film Luther tell her she's been praying for her...I'm assuming that person's actions are as a Christian praying for a non-Christian...things like fundamentalism or having people pray for others on the basis of their lack of Christianity (as if there is something inherently wrong with that) bothers me and makes me feel uncomfortable...

prayer in general, however, does not bother me...in my own way, I pray for other people (or mentally wish them well) all the time...

I did not realize the person was praying for Wednes conversion. It does scare me when people tell me things like I am going to hell because I do not beleive the same. People who have never talked to me and know me only from telling me I am going to hell. This gives Christians a bad name. Not all are like that however.

I have prayed for people. Health and good decision making are common themes for me.

H's family has told me many times that they pray for our happiness; which I think is wonderful.

Yet I also feel weird about it, because at H's request, I have not been forthcoming about my own beleifs with them...to me this feels like a lie of omission. So that makes me uncomfortable, but I don't think his folks have the desire to convert anyone.

it's quite possible that the person was not exactly praying for Wednes' conversion...my reference to such a thing was really just an extension of what tends to make me uncomfortable more than a reflection of what the situation actually is...

I know that not all Christians are out to condemn non-belivers to hell...there needs to be more of the open and accepting kind out there...

I think health and good decision making are excellent themes for prayer...

Actually historians apparently have been able to learn about the times in which Jesus lived w/o the bible as a reference. It is certainly NOT logical to accept the bible's version of events. How could the bible's version be even close to accurate? It is a religious text. Only fanatical christians make any claim of accuracy in the bible.
