Equilibrium?

H rented this film, and I tried to get into it for about 5 minutes...

It looks like a total Matrix rip-off with some elements of Farenheit 451, Minority Report and Brave new World mixed in for fun.

I ask you: Why are people raving about what appears to be a derrivitive, fluffy rehash?

Because, unlike The Matrix and its ilk, it had a plot in amongst the CGI masturbation, characters, a lead who could act and was made on a fraction of the money...

And spookily enough it was made before Minority Report but got stuck in release-date hell for a long time and then only got a limited release following 9/11 ( allegedly due to certain members of the Bush administration leaning on Hollywood execs because they believed it was an anti-government film, if you can believe that ).

I'm going to play devils advocate here...I thought it pissed rings around the Wachowski brothers efforts. I was never a big fan of the original Matrix and If you've read my journal recently you know my feelings about the new one ( pop review: piece of shit )

Now go rent Jorge Grau's beautifully photographed 70's zombie masterpiece, Let Sleeping Corpses Lie and wonder forever just how much of an influence it was on the films of Lucio Fulci and Carpenters The Fog.

I promise you'll like it...:)

Oh alright, but I want you to knwo that the good video store is clear across town, and I don't drive.

But, my cable wont be turned on for another week, so I have some time to kill.

I think the reason I got into this last Martix film is because I am not, repeat, NOT an action or sci-fi fan (with the exception of some sci-fi/horror) so my expectations are very low. Plus I saw it for free several days before it opened.

I did read your review, and agree with many of your points. I do think though, that Hugo Weaving is pretty bad-ass.
